Prior to the order of business of the Board of Hommissioners' April
meeting, Mayor Hanan presented a silver bowl to Aubrey Johnson in appre
ciation for his dedicated service to the town. Mr. Johnson is leaving
the area to take up residence in Virginia.
Commissioner Blanchard gave the report for the Streets and Public
Property. Three items were addressed by the Commissioner. Tipping Fee
Charges of approximately $1000. per month was assessed by the County
to Pine Knoll Shores to finance the County landfill. All of the towns
in the County will be assessed a total of $169,750 annually, the Pine
Knoll Shores share will be $12,680. Copeland Nursery has been awarded
_ the contract from the town for mowing on Salter Path and all of the Town’s
streets. Mr. Blanchard also reported that the fuel storage tanks replace-
ment would begin within 2 to 3 months and take one month for completion.
Commissioner Gibson asked Police Chief Crawford to approach the
Commissioners. He then presented Chief Crawford with a plaque for 10
years of dedicated service to the community. Commissioner Gibson cited
101 police responses, 1 traffic accident and 9 breaking and entering to
cars on Oakleaf Drive. Ghief Crawford reminded all residents to remove
all belongings from your cars even if the car is parked in your driveway.
We were told of a robbery that took place by thieves opening a hiding
glass door while the residents were at home. So please use caution!
These nice warm days brings out more than tourists.
Commissioner Hasulak explained the insurance policy covering all
members of the Fire and Rescue Squads. Details of the coverage had been
explained to all of the Fire and Rescue Squad volunteers. The Rescue
Squad answered 6 calls in March, there were no calls for the Fire Depart
ment Pine Knoll Shores has recently reached an agreement with Salter
