Prior to the regular June meeting of the Board of Commissioners, a
Budget hearing was held to discuss the upcoming fiscal 1991-92 budget.
The proposed tax rate increase to .15 per $100 was discussed. The increase
was made necessary due to the decrease in reimbursement to local munici
palities from the State.
At the conclusion of the Budget meeting, Mayor Hanan called upon the
Commissioners to give their reports.
Commissioner Blanchard requested a workshop meeting to discuss the
proposal for a Town Seal. This was set to June 17. Also addressed was
the problem with mowing on the Town right-of-ways.
There are several lots in Town that have trees or tree limbs over
hanging the street rights-of-way making it difficult or impossible to the
contractor to mow the right-of-ways. Homeowners are requested to check
the right-of way by their respective houses and, if necessary, remove limbs
that would presvent the mowing contractor from properly cutting the grass
on the right-of-way.
Commissioner Gibson reported that police officers McAllister, Macklin
and Neison attended classes on special legal issues drug interdiction
and detection. 103 police calls were answered during May including breaking
and entering.
Commissioner Hasulak noted that the Hurricane season was upon us once
again. He requested that during times of impending evacuation, that per
sons requring transporation by ambulance notify the rescue squad of that
service as early as possible. He also spoke about an emergency telephone
