COMMUNITY APPEARANCE COMMISSION
The regular meeting of the Community Appearance Commission was held
June 5, 1991.
Chairman Winslow asked for a report from the Building Inspector on
the letters concerning trash can and container violations. Inspector
Fulcher reported that there are twelve homes still in violation that have
not responded.
Commissioner Evan Roderick reported that there were 5 new homes, 3
tree removals, 1 misee 11aneious permit, no commercial permits and no cer
tificates of occupancy during the month of May.
Pat Flinn reported that she had not seen a great deal of improvement
to the mail boxes on Oakleaf and Mimosa.
Bob Winslow contacted David Waller concerning the beautification of
the entrances to Live Oak Forest. He also tried to call Sam Ballou but
calls were not returned.
Cathy Anderson, a resident of Pine Knoll Vi11 age,contacted Chairman
Bob Winslow complaining about the weeds that had grown up on the lots across
from her. She felt like the homeowners should be contacted and asked to
keep their property mowed.
Bob Winslow also asked the Building Inspector to check on a small
pick-up truck that has been leaving plastic bags of trash in front of 16S
Oakleaf Drive for the garbage men to pick up.
Pat Flinn reported that rental property owners need to be contacted
concerning the upkeep of their property. The Mayor stated he would write
a letter to the Board of Realtors stressing the importance of keeping their
rental property in good condition.
Ann Hitch announced that the Garden Club would be having "Green Bag
Day" on Saturday, October 26 and asked the cooperation -of the Town in making
this day successful.
Paul Heim expressed concern over the mislocation of a house on Arbor-
vitae Court and submitted a letter and drawing showing the drip line in
the setback. Ha stated that there are other houses in Pine Knoll Shores
that are also located improperly on lots. The Building Inspector was asked
to get a surveyor to check the location of the house on Arborvitae Court.
The Mayor stated that each drawing presented to the Building Inspector
should show the drip line and designated as such.
HURRICANE AWARENESS PROGRAM
On June 17 the Hurricane Awareness Program was presented to a standing
room only group of residents from Pine Knoll Shores and adjacent munici
pal ities.
Jay Barnes, Director of the N. C. Aquarium gave an interesting and
informative slide and talk program on the threat to life and property that
hurricanes present to the Worth Carolina coastal area.
Mr. Barnes stressed that awareness and proper preparation are keys
to survival when hurricanes strike with winds that exceed 75 miles per
hour. He pointed out that the total width of hurricane force winds could
reach up to 300 miles from the eye of the storm and that a rapid rise in
