Marv is a vpry recently retired optometrist [in the living room is a wonderful paint ng of his office front on a street in Rochester, Michigan, where he practiced for 37 years], and he also handled plenty of civic res ponsibilities. He was on the Board of the Leader Dogs for the Blind. He was the eye doctor for the Detroit Lions, and sat on the State Board of Examiners [optometry], and was a Rotarian. [Still is, in fact!] One day, at the height of some of this stuff, a friend said to him "Now don't be upset one of these days when you walk into a room and someone says, "Marv who?" It's the humbling that happens when one leaves the fray and settles into concentrating on his hobbies. Looks as if Marv has handled this wel 1^ and is secure enough to be able to mix with new people who have no idea who or what he was before, and he's now delightedly dealing with a brand new boat. Gen, feorn in North Carolina, [Marv is from Michigan] is a painter, mostly in water color, but recently has done some oils. She studied art in school but went back later on and, in 1989, got a degree in biology, and did research on genetic variations in snakes. She guides some of the nature hikes for the aquarium, and Marv proudly says she's a great tennis player. The Weisman's daughter, Ilanna, 19, has just finished her first year at the University of South Carolina, hopes eventually to transfer to UNC. She is working as a waitress this summer at the Charter. Behind the house is a glorioxis water lily pond like something oLfc of Monet's garden in Giverney. The Pekinese dog. Sugar, lay happily in a shady spot when I was there. Gen says Sugar loves the ocean, but is too arthritic these days, at 11) to be able to tumble about in the waves much. It seems that when the Weismans had a condo at Ocean Terrace, Sugar met two labs with whom she frolicked a lot. She's thought since then that she's a lab," Gen confided. Discovering PKS was Marv says, all a matter of going straight [at the bridge] or turning right. Gen said to turn right. They did. MARY DOLL Although they are still unpacking boxes, Diane and John Mauldin, 118| White Ash Drive, are finding time to skip off to the beach to mellow out. It doesn't take long around here to discover that you have to do that and do it often or you miss the whole point of living in PKS.
