Page -2- on of the questionnaire that residents will receive in early November, and that the next meeting on Land Use will be October 29, at 2:00 p.m. at Town Hall. Mayor Hanan announced that mile post markers have been installed alonj Salter Path Road. Markers 5 to 9 are along the Pine Knoll Shores boundary. He also noted that center line reflectors that were lost during the snow removal of 1989 have been replaced. Green Bag day will be held October 26 at 10:20 a.m. at Brock Basin and Candidates' Night is October 24 at 7;30 p.m at Town Hall. Mrs. Judy Salchow addressed the Board and attendees with a comprehen sive summary of the problems in attaining a solution to the vexing problem of solving the rain water drainage for the 57-1/2 acres located along the eastern boundary of Pine Knoll Shores. PLANNING BOARD The Planning Board met September 25th in the Town Hall. The Chairman, John McCormick, called on the Mayor to administer the oaths of office to Cliff Mitchell, Charlotte Sheard and Beal Marks. Mr. McCormick then turned the meeting over to the new Chairman, Cliff Mitchell, who expressed appre ciation of the Planning Board for John McCormick's time and effort on behalf of the Board and the Town. He also thanked Mary Kanyha for her contribution to the Planning Board. Lois Jean O'Keefe reported for the sub-committee on ocean pruning and tree removal. Karl Graetz, an expert on all vegetation on Bogue Banks, has been contacted by letter asking for a meeting and his expertise in the cut ting or disruption of the scrub zone on the dunes. The Mayor introduced Dale Holland, Planner, for the Land Use Update Plan, Mr. Holland explained the Land Use Planning process and gave and overview of Pine Knoll Shores Land Use Plan Update. COMMUNITY APPEARANCE COMMISSION The regular meeting of the Community Appearance Commission was held September 4, 1991. The meeting was called to order by Chairman Bob Winslow. He asked everyone to bow their heads in quiet meditation in memory of Audrey Hoffmeyer. Lois Jean O'Keefe brought the group up to date on tree removal and pruning according to John McGraw, Forest specialist with the Agriculture Extension Service. Mrs. O'Keefe, suggested that each Community Appearance member have a copy of the letter James McGraw had written concerning pruning and the cutting down of large trees. She advised that the Planning board is recom mending that the size of trees to cut down be increased from 2 inches in diameter to 3 inches in diameter, measured 3-1/2 feet from the base of the tree. They are also adding the names of several more species of plants to the concerned list. This will help protect the canopies along the ocean- front. It was determined that the Building Inspector should send follow-up letters to those owners who had been asked to improve or move their trash bins and had not done so. Ann Hitch announced that Green Bag Day would be on Saturday, October 26 and invited all that could to participate.
