FIRST WOMAN MAYOR ELECTED
Mary Kanyha became the First woman Mayor oF Pine Knoll Shores by
unanimous vote oF the Board oF Commissioners. Prior to Ms. Kanyha's appoint
ment, David Hasulak advised that he would decline the position oF Mayor in
the interest oF preserving harmony on the Board which would be best For the
Town. AFter the swearing in oF the newly elected Commissioners, department
responsibilities were assigned. Robert Gall’: will remain as Finance Com-

Commissioner, Lee Blanchard will remain as Commissioner oF Streets and Public
Property, Reese Musgrave will become Commissioner oF Police and Richard
•Schultz, Commissioner oF Planning and Inspections.
The Commissioners' meeting was attended by an overFlow crowd oF resi
dents as Ken Hanan gaveled the meeting to order as his last oFFicial act
as Mayor.
A short Public Meeting was held to discuss changes in the ordinance
concerning tree removal, cleaning oF property and adding to a list oF shrubs
designated as protection oF our dune area.
Commissioner Blanchard reported on the residential driveways that oau$
gravel to spill into town streets. He requests that residents clean any
driveway gravel on town roadways.
Commissioner Gallo stated that revenues For November were $81,725 which
is down slightly From budget projections. Expenditures were $69,293 which
is short oF budget. IF this ratio oF revenues to expenditures continues,
the budget shortFall will be minimal. Mr. Gallo anticipates tax collections
will increase in December as residents rush to avoid any late payment penal
ties. Mr. Gallo presented a budget amendment to allow For payment oF $8500
to the White Construction Co. For contractual work proposed in the swale
water drainage project.
