Page -5- citizens. Quite often, she finds an accumulation of mail in people's boxes. She usually checks at the house, or with neighbors, to determine whether the residents are OK, or on a trip, or if their mail delivery should be temporarily suspended. Most frequently, she finds that the occupants have just neglected to remove their mail from the box. It would help Nancy con siderably if everyone would pick up their mail daily, or arrange for some one else to do so. CHRISTMAS PARADE December 7th dawned bright and beautiful, just what was needed for the big Pine Knoll Shores Parade! And what a parade it was! The whole town was represented. It all began with Officer McAllister in the police car, escorting Santa Claus [Duke Foulk] in his "sleigh" [by courtesy of Evan Roderick]. The ambulance was manned by veteran rescue squaders Gil Millington and Teddy Wimber1ey,the 4 by 4 by the Frank Herbsts, Pumper 2 by Dave Hasulak with the Mayor and Shore line represented, and finally our pride and joy, Pumper 1, driven by Andy Turney with Marge on the siren. This was probably the noisiest Christmas parade in Pine Knoll Shores history! Santa had a bag full of goodies and many, many children lined the route [grown-ups too] but Santa knew they had all been good and he had plenty to go around. When asked to make a statement for the press, Santa said it all - "MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!" CHRISTMAS BOAT PARADE The annual Boat Parade will be held at 5:00 p.m. Christmas Eve starting from Brock Basin. All boaters who are interested in participating, form up at Brock Basin before 5:00 p.m. FROM THE HARBOR MASTER On or about 15 November 1991 someone "donated" about a bushel of empty oyster shells into the waters of Brock Basin. Debris of this nature creates a problem for boaters which could involve some unnecessary expense. Would the person/persons who "donated" these shells kindly remove them from Brock Basin. Anyone who has knowledge as to who dumped the shells is asked to call me at 247-2039 so I can contact the responsible party and have the shells removed. Nothing should be dumped into the waters of the canal or boat basins. FRED LIBBY, Harbormaster ANCIENT MARINERS As 'twas to be expected, we have a change, albeit a small one, in the top teams. Here is now they stand: still first. Bob Whitmore, Captain, with Connie Browne, Ted Goetzinger and Peg Stone. Second, Marv Weisman, Captain, Blanche Yancey, Dick Perkins and Lexine Jordan. Once again there is a three-way tie for third, but Duke Foulk, Captain, Betty Haughey, Wally Williams and Marge Johnson have the most pins. The ladies continue to get excellent scores - Emily White, 197, Karolyn Cleveland, ISl; Ellen Whitmore, 180; and Millie Herbst, 180. For the men we have Duane Mead, 213; and Max Hileman, 206. Just think what these folks must have done a few [?] years ago. FRED KORFF
