Library Has New
Director
Our I annual booksale here at the
libraiy, August 8, was a
success. We appreciate all
the help that everyone involved in the
sale gave us. Our Storytelling Festivai
at the Aquarium was well attended with
around 280 at the final count

Jo Cox's Calligraphy exhibit will be on
display in our cabinets through the end
of September. Our thanks to Jo for
loaning it to us. If you haven't seen it
conf)e by and enjoy.
Our regional director here at Bogue
Banks, Mrs. Elinor Hawkins has retired
as of September 1,1992. Mr. Wayne
Modlin, previously in library work in the
western part of the state, will be our new
director. Welcome to Mr. Modlin.
Kathleen Muller, our assistant librarian,
returned to work August 17. We are
glad to have her back.

Rne Knoll Shores Women
Club will be the Friday,
October 23,1992, at Town
Hall. 9:30 AM Social,
10:00AM - Program, followed by the
business meeting.
Ellen Peirce, Director of the Retired
Senior Volunteer Program, known as
RSVP, will speak on the sen/ice, and
what it does for the community. Ellen,
and her husband Jim, are also the
editors of the Pine Knoll Shores monthly
paper The Shoreline.
A note to put on your calendar. Friday,
December 11th, will be the Pine Knoll
Shores Womens Club Luncheon. More

Mayor Mary Kanyha on Septenfiber 4th,
gave a welcoming speech at the opening
ceremony for the U.S.C.G. CUTTER
BARGUE EAGLE. On behalf of the
town of Rne Knoll Shores, Mayor
Kanyha welcomed Captain Patrick
Stilman and his crew, and presented him
with a guide to the Crystal Coast
inscribed in calligraphy by Patricia
Nelson.

SURPLUS PROPERTY
A kitchen undercounter from the watch
room at Town hall has been replaced.
The used property has been declared as
surplus and has been released for sale.

EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT
Commissioner Hasulak emphasized the
lessons to be learned from problems
experienced in Florida and Louisiana
following Hunicane Andrew. Personal
products such as prescription medicines
and diapers should not be overiooked in
preparing for evacuation.
STREET NAME SIGNS
Commissioner Blanchard reports that he
has received many favorable comments
on the new street name signs. Several
street name signs have been ordered
that were not included in the first order.
RNANCE
Commissioner Gallo reports that 7.6% of
budgeted revenues have been received
while 15% of budget expenditures have
been distributred. Revenues from room
tax and sales tax were up a little.
Investments average a rate of 2.8% Tax
bills should be out by September 15, and
citizens are urged to pay eariy although
taxes can be paid at par through January
5th.
