The Shoreline ♦ ♦ LEASH LAW Now In Effect! Just 1 reminder to all our residents that own dogs. The new leash law went into effect April 1, 1993. Please be advised that dogs are required to be on a leash when not on their own property. Furthermore, all dog owners must clean up after their dogs. You may obtain a copy of the ordinance at Town Hall. Violation of this ordinance will result in a fine. Your cooperation in this et^deavor is greatly appreciated. HURRICANE AWARENESS The Pine Knoll Shores Hurricane Awareness Program will be held at Town Hall on May 6 at 2:00PM, The speaker will be A1 Hinn from the National Weather Service (NOAA). The presentation will be a benefit to all. The more we know, the better we are prepared. This event is open to the public. I want to thank all of the people on the Emergency Management Program who helped in the Carteret County Damage Assessment project. This was an off season storm and we were caught off guard, but we all jumped in and did our part. We should all be proud. Charlie Romine, Director Emegency Management •»*•*«***«**********«««*«•••*•*»**•«* PKS GARDEN CLUB ARBOR DAY DEDICATION Members of the PKS Garden Club and other ftiends of Vern Wallace met Friday, March 19, at 10:00AM, for the club's annual Arbor Day Planting. Marge Sellers, president of the PKS Garden Club, welcomed those in attendance at the planting site at Pine Knoll and Rossevelt Boulevards. Lenora Roberson led the salute to the flag. Lois Jean O'Keefe sjroke lovingly and with admiration for Alverna "Vern" Wallace, who died this past October 1992. Mrs. O'Keefe recalled Vern's work in the PKS Garden Club since 1974, when she was one of the founding members. Vern organized the first Christmas luminaria in 1974 and worked with it each succeeding year. She served the club in many capacities, including the presidency in 1990-91. Lois Jean spoke for all in saying the club was blessed by having Vern in its midst. Mayor Mary Kanyha dedicated the Bradford pear that was planted in Vern's memory. She spoke of the happiness we find in giving of ourselves. She said, "Vern Wallace gave completely of herself in whatever endeavor she undertooL Thus, in Vern's memory, we let this tree remind us that if we give of ourselves, we will live in true happiness." Our children's storytime on Wednesday mornings has been changed to 10:00AM and Anne Johnston will be in charge of all the children's programs at all the libraries in the region. We have been given an allocation by our "Friends" organization for new magazine subscriptions. We are asking our patrons to drop by or to telephone to let us know what magazines you would like to see in the library. This will help us with our decisions. New B&T books are: Texas Sunrise by Michaels, Rebel by Cornwell, Healing and the Mind by Moyers, Everything She Ever Wanted by Rule, and Close Combat by Griffin. The Book discussion Group will meet for the final time in May. Buddenbrooks by Tomas Mann will be the book of discussion. Our next session will be September 17 and the book of discussion will be by Tonic Morrison. Friday, June 4, has been chosen for the annual Spring luncheon to be held at Jason's in Morehead City. Make your reservations with Jan GriflFiths. The speaker will be Ms. Jean Bruyere Kell, from Beaufort. It will be on antique evaluation and dating. She has written numerous books on historical information about Beaufort, NC. She will help date any antique you may have- -if you bring it to the meeting. Don't forget to carpool as parking is limited. You've been doing a great job. Betty Lee Foulk
