Lee Carroll, town auditor, de
clared the town in sound financial
position and rendered an unqual
ified opinion in his report on the
independent audit at the Nov.10
meeting. The Comprehensive Annual
Financial Report will be entered a-
gain this year for a Certificate of
Achievement in Financial Reporting.
Prepared by the town staff, the
report has met these exacting
standards for the past five years.
SURPLDS PROPERTY
Commissioners declared certain
town personal property surplus to
needs of the town as required by
law. Citizens can examine and
offer to buy these items at silent
auction on Friday, December 2, at
2:00 p.m. in the fire bay at town
hall. All sales are final and paid
in cash. A list of items is posted
on the bulletin board at town hall.
Items include 2 shotguns, two type
writers, a walkie-talkie, a piece
of outdoor carpet and a sideboard.
All items will be disposed.
BURNING PERMITS REQUIRED
The Fire Protection and
Prevention Chapter of the Code of
Ordinances of the Town of PKS, 11-4
cites the requirements for burning
which include calling town hall for
permit. Please advise any land-
scaper or contractor you employ to
get a permit before burning trash.
NOTICE TO TAXPAYERS
With all the holiday activities,
taxes may become the last thing on
your minds. If you have not paid
your Town taxes, please do so be
fore Christmas week. January 5th
is the last day to pay taxes with
out interest. Payment before the
Holiday Season will be appreciated.

TRANSPORTATION IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM
Meeting in Beaufort with members
of the NC General Assembly, Mayors,
Transportation Advisory Committee
Chairmen, Commissioners, Chamber of
Commerce and Economic Development
interest, the Transportation Im
provement Program(TIP) Board
gathered to receive input on prior
ity and candidate projects for
inclusion in the 1996-2002 Trans
portation Improvement Program.
Representing PKS was Mayor Pro
Tempore Reese Musgrave. Mayor
Hasulak was attending a previously
scheduled waste water task force
meeting.
County wide priorities tenta
tively set were:
1. High rise bridge over
Gallants Channel at Beaufort.
2. Continued improvement by
widening Hwy. 24.
3. Continued improvement of
Hwy.70 from Raleigh to
Carteret County with limited
accesses and a by-pass of
Havelock.
4. An overpass at the intersec
tion of Hwys. 24 and 70 west
edge of Morehead City.
5. Intersection overpass at Hwy.
70 and Bridges St. extension
in Morehead City.
Each town also has a list of
priorities. Pine Knoll Shores
priorities are:
1. Bike paths/trails on Hwy.58.
2. Three lanes on Hwy. 58.
3. Turn off lanes from Hwy. 58
at Oakleaf Dr., Mimosa Blvd.,
Pine Knoll Blvd.
4. Pedestrian stop light on Hwy.
58 at Mimosa Blvd.
5. Cut back, clean out vegeta
tion in swales along Hwy. 58.
As stated in our Land Use Plan
Update, the Town of Pine Knoll
Shores continues to oppose a third
bridge across Bogue Sound with the
terminus in Pine Knoll Shores.
