CAMA MEASUREMENT ADOPTED Oceanfront setbacks will be determined in Pine Knoll Shores using CAMA designation of "first line of stable vegetation". TROPICAL STORM GORDON Erosion as the result of Storm Gordon, November 18 & 19, was worse than many realize. There was damage to the crest of frontal dunes, some primary dunes, and near the Ramada Inn landward of the crest of the primary dune. In the canal, the water level was noted to the top of the cap block, which is usually five feet above mean high water with shallow soundside flooding which will result in salt water damage to vegetation. Estimated dollar value of damage to steps, decks and sittums on the ocean front was $400,000. Debris removal and bulldozing was estimated at $325,000 with another $50,000 estimated for damage to personal property such as boats, landscaping and deck furniture. Citizens at the meeting were concerned about the need for action before further damage is done. An ocean front committee composed of affected property owners seeking solutions will meet at Town Hall on January 13, 1995. SALT WATER FISHING LICENSE OPPOSED Commissioners voted to join other oceanfront towns in opposi tion to a proposed license for saltwater fishermen. The resolu tion cited all the benefits these recreational fishermen contribute to our economy. SALE OF SURPLUS PERSONAL PROPERTY The sale of surplus personal property belonging to the town brought $224. Obsolete desk chairs, damaged shotguns, a sideboard, a piece of used carpet and old type writers were sold while other items were thrown away. Further cleaning of closets will cause some other items to be offered perhaps in late January or early February. WATER RATE INCREASE A few residents have asked what they can do about the rising cost of water and who they can call or write. The following is a list of N.C. Utilities Commissioners, the General Counsel of Commissioners, telephone number and address.
