INSPECTIONS AND PIAMKING During February, 1995, the PKS Building Inspections Department issued 3 new residential permits for a value of $453,000 and 12 miscellaneous permits for a value of $203,975. Four CAMA permits and 12 CAMA exemptions issued. The Town of PKS will join other state and local governments in observing 1995 Building Safety Week on April 9-15. Observation of Building Safety Week is publicized annually in an effort to ensure construction of safe, sound buildings. The importance of construction codes and their regulation and enforcement is often overlooked, until some catastrophic fire or other construction-related tragedy occurs and receives atten tion, shocking peoples' conscious ness. Steps are being taken by the PKS Building Inspections Department to ensure the buildings in our com munity are safe, accessible places to work, play and live. The PKS Building Inspections Dept, enforces safety regulations by reviewing building plans, issu ing permits and inspecting build ings during the various stages of construction. Proper enforcement of building, mechanical, fire preven tion, mechanical, plumbing, elec trical and property maintenance codes leads to the safety of our changing and expanding built en vironment. Code officials who pro vide this service remain largely unheralded. Their success lies in the disasters that don't happen - the buildings that don't collapse from excessive wind, the children who don't fall through guardrails, and the electrocutions that don't occur. If you have questions or con- concerns about building safety, contact the PKS Building Dept, at 247-4353 or visit the office at Town Hall.
