PINE KNOLL SHORES CARDEN CLUB The Pine Knoll Shores Garden Club began its 21st year on September 13th at Town Hall. The meeting was presided over by Lois Jean O'Keefe, President. Lois Jean has always worked tirelessly for the club, having served as president in 1984-85 also. The group discussed the budget and projects for 1995-96. A donation to the NC Elizabethan Gardens was made in memory of Louise Jolitz. Casey Griffin, current President of the Seashore Council (All Garden Clubs in this area) announced that the council's District Meeting will be held at the Royal Pavillion on October 31st. PKS Garden Club will be responsible for table decora- tions and placecards. There was discussion about looking into the possibility of collecting used plastic garden pots, which could be recycled by a local nursery. Maggie Johnson will explore this. Clare Winslow, Vice-President, introduced the speaker, Larry Windsor, Plant Manager of Martin-Marrietta Aggregates at Belgrade, NC, who spoke on Quarrying. An interesting part of the discussion was the reclamation efforts in restoring the environment disturbed by the Martin-Marietta Company Activities. This will enable patrons to use the same card at any of the CPC System libraries in Craven, Pamiica, and Carteret Counties. The book discussion group "Between the Bookends" is once again active on the second Monday of each month at the library. The topic for discussion for the October meeting is Italy and Italian writers. Pine knoll Shores has been providing information to its citizens regarding the ongoing process of building or purchasing a water system. Despite the several public hearings and much public discussion, some confusion continues as to the upcoming bond referendum. Whether the Town purchases the existing water system or builds a new water system, funds will need to be borrowed. In order to borrow The funds, the Town must purchase bonds, which must be approved in advance by the vote of the citizens of the Town.
