For those of you who are new to this area, PKS has had a tradition for years, of lining the streets, and the boat basins at Brock Basin, Davis Landing and Hall Haven with Christmas candles on Christmas Eve. The kits are $5.00 for 10 candles and 10 paper bags. You may also make a donation to help puchase candles to be placed and lit in memory of someone. To order kits, call Julia Woolard (247-6030) or Connie Parker (247-3033). They may be picked up at Town Hall on December 6th, 11:00 to 12:00. Claire Winslow introduced the speaker, Charlotte Garrette from Havelock who spoke on "Ikebana, Japanese flower arranging." Mrs. Garrette has lived in Japan, and she explained the importance of flower arranging to the Japanese. It goes back to the 6th Century. All Japanese women learn about flower arranging at an early age, and it is one of the arts and social graces necessary to learn, prior to marriage. Mrs. Garrette made several interesting flower arrangements. Gardening Tip: Fertilize your trees and shrubs with about 2 tbsp. potash, that will increase the strength of the roots. Be sure to water. 3
