PINE KNOLL SHORES EMS SQUAD #65
PKS EMS #65 held its monthly meeting on
January 2, 1996 at 7:00 PM at the Town Hall.
We welcomed Emily White, our newly elected
Commissioner for Emergency Services.
Retired EMT-D, Gil Millington, was present.
He shared words of appreciation with the
squad, regarding the valuable asset EMS squads
are throughout the county.
Joan and Fred Libby were thanked for their
planning of the Christmas Party
The Squad recognized Kathy Trommer for
the efficient job she does as Education Officer
and Record Keeper. Carteret General Hospital
Director, Dr. Bell, audited our records and gave
them his approval.
The Squad reviewed and approved the
newest By-Laws Revision. The changes were
presented to the Board of Commissioners for
official acceptance at their January Meeting.
The Squad has been informed that
its application for a matching grant
has been approved by the State.
A committee, headed by Ted
Lindblad, has been formed to recommend the
purchase of an ambulance. The vehicle must be
delivered by the end of April, 1996.
The EMS and Fire Department had a joint
meeting on January 4th to exchange ideas and
make plans for joint training.
New EMT Trainees: Marilyn and Andy
Smetana.
The Squad answered 10 calls in December.
Remember...Call 911 and we will be there!!!
Teddy Wimberley, Chief.
PKS SWEATSHIRTS, POLO SHIRTS, AND CAPS
ARE STILL AVAILABLE FOR SALE AT THE
TOWN HALL.
The PKS Fire Department and EMS
Squad again remind you to be aware of
the vehicle access to your home in
case of an emergency requiring the
services of our fire engines or
ambulances. They estimate that tliey
should have a vehicle clearance of 13-
16' high and 10' wide.
Also, we would remind residents
again that it is mandatory, and most
important for your protection, that the
numerical street address assigned by
the town shall be posted on the
structure or upon the lot upon which
the structure is located.
Attention to both of these items
could mean a saving of valuable time if
there should be an emergency at your
residence.
PINE KNOLL SHORES CARDEN CLUB
The PKS Garden Club met January 10th. The
speaker was Ms. Jeannie Kraus from the NC^B
Maritime Museum in Beaufort. She talked on ^
"Mushrooms." She showed slides and examples
of several kinds of mushrooms. Many kinds of
mushrooms, particulariy in the South, are
poisonous, so don't eat just anything! Jean takes
groups on walking tours to look for and identify
different varieties.
Julia Woolard reported on the Christmas Eve
luminaria project. The boat basins were
"beautiful," but participation in other areas was
sporadic. It was suggested that perhaps Garden
Club might light just the basins next year. On
Christmas Eve, Fred and Joan Libby and others,
lit 164 candles in plastic milk bottles. It was
spectacular. Plastic bottles are safer. The club
would welcome input from citizens, since this
has been a community project. Share your ideas
with any Garden Club member.
When planning flowers and planting, don't
forget the Garden Club's yeariy plant sale will
be in mid-April.
