AUGUST BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS MEETING
N.C. AQUARIUM
A Public Hearing was held before the regularly scheduled Board meeting on August 13,
1996, to get input from citizens on the planned expansion for the N.C. Aquarium within
their designated area. All comments were favorable and the Board voted unanimously to
approve the proposed amendment to the Town Ordinance to allow the expansion.
1996 TAX BILLS
The Board of Commissioners charged the Tax Collector with the collection of the 1996
taxes as required by the N.C. General Statute 105-321. Residents will be receiving their tax
bills around September 1.
HURRICANE BERTHA
The cleanup from Hurricane Bertha cost the Town approximately $166,000, of which the
Town will be reimbursed 100%, 25% from FEMA and 75% from the state. There was some
damage to the roof of the municipal building and a new roof will be installed in the near
future.
CONCRA TULA TIONS!
Lois Jean O'Keefe has been appointed to the Board of Commissioners of the N.C.
Aquarium and Emily White has been reappointed to the Regional Library Board, Our hats
are off to both these ladies in their unselfish contribution of time and talent in serving their
community.
