AFTER THE HURRICANE To residents in areas ^ of town flooded during unusually heavy rain, who use well water for household usage (drinking, culinary, etc.); in the future when flooding occurs and water lays, be sure not to use well water for household purposes, until you have had it tested by the Environmental Health Department. The number to call at the Environmental Health Department in Beaufort to arrange to have it tested is 728- 8499 Contrary to rumors that are circulating, neither the town nor Carolina Water Service turned off the water in Pine Knoll Shores during the storm. The pressure in the water tanks is maintained by electric power. Note: Residents who use a GENERATOR during power outages should install a double throw switch. This switch will ensure that power does not backfeed to CCEMC power lines. Your life and the linemen's lives could be in danger without the switch. The alternative to the switch is to turn off the main power switch in your home. LARGE ITEM PICKUP Waste Industries will conduct its semi annual pickup of large and bulky household items on Thursday, October 24. Items which will NOT be accepted are: Tires and batteries Paint and oil Gas cans and containers with other residue in them Building Materials PKS EMS SQUAD #65 PKS Emergency Squad held its monthly meeting September 3 at Town Hall. The squad was alerted to the hurricane watch for "Fran" and the possibility of having to transport bed-ridden patients to the hospital or a nursing facility. Transports are only done during a "watch". Families should have arrangements made prior to the time the squad and ambulances are scheduled for transportation. Scheduling is important so several patients can be transported and members can make personal plans for the safety of their property and preparations to evacuate. Crews were set up to cover the duty at West Carteret High School on September 26 and October 11. Ted Lindblad does a statistical report on ambulance runs. During August the ambu lance was en route on an average of 1.8 minutes and was at the scene on an average of 5.6 minutes after the tones came from the dispatcher. First responders (EMT-D's) were on the scene on an average of 2.2 minutes of the first tones. PKS EMS #65 are quick to answer 911 calls. Kathy Trommer, Education Officer, distributed booklets listing schedules for continuing education for 1996-1997. A special meeting will be held on Monday, September 9th at 7 PM at Town Hall to review and discuss the schedule. Calls in August: EMS: 16, Transports: 3, Fire Calls: 1. Teddy Wimberley, Chief PINE KNOLL SHORES WOMEN'S CLUB The Pine Knoll Shores Women's Club will meet Friday, October 25 at 9:30 A.M., in Town Hall.
