EMS Squad #65 The August update of Pine Knoll Shores Rescue Squad #65 includes Chief Lindblad's participation in Carteret County's quarterly Audit and Review meeting at Carteret General Hospital where the focus of discussion was drowning and coronary problems. Also discussed was North Carolina's requirement for each squad member to participate, annually in twenty-four hours of Continuing Education. At the local meeting it was noted that Carteret County requires an additional three for a total of twenty-seven hours of Continuing Education per year. Kathy Tromer, Education Chairman, developed personalized schedules for each squad member. Squad #65 is preparing to apply to the State for a matching grant to purchase two, state-of- the-art defibrillators, one for each ambulance. This effort is a squad priority and is being organized by Malcolm Bone. The squad is also investigating installing cellular phones in each ambulance to allow the units to contact, directly, the police, the second ambulance, and other squad members, as well as, Carteret General Hospital and the Sheriff's Office. Andy Smetana is checking out this possibility. Squad #65 answered 22 calls in August: 20 medical and 2 fire. submitted by: Marilyn Smetana from the PKS Police Department Most larcenies that take place in Pine Knoll Shores occur during the off season (October - April). Now is when we need to be especially alert for suspicious activity in our community. If you notice a suspicious vehicle or person, get a good description and call us immediately (dispatcher's # 504-4800). Also, it is important that citizens take appropriate precautionary measures to protect their personal property. The majority of past larcenies have been the result of citizens not securing their homes and vehicles. When not at home, keep your windows and doors locked. If your vehicle is parked outside, keep it locked and don't leave valuable items inside of it. If leaving town, notify us and we'll conduct property checks on your residence. We have a very low crime rate and our goal is to reduce it to a lower level. By each citizen being alert for suspicious activity and taking a few precautionary measures, we can continue to reduce crime in our community. submitted by: Officer Marty Bourdeau Pine Knoll Shores Women's Club The next meeting of the Pine Knoll Shores Women's Club will be October 24 at 9:30 A.M. in the Town Hall.
