EMS Squad #65 Pine Knoll Shores Rescue Squad #65 is planning to offer blood pressure screening for the general public on Saturday mornings at the Town Hall. We are also willing to conduct CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) workshops if there is sufficient interest from our residents. Please phone the Town Hall to express your interest if you wish to participate, and stay tuned to the Shoreline for further details. Also of note is our "over supply" of walkers, crutches, and portable commodes, and our limited storage capabilities. If any resident wishes to obtain any of these items, we would be pleased to give them away in order to thin out our inventory. But certainly we will continue our service of maintaining a few of these items for lending out as needed. Squad #65 responded to ten medical calls and two transports in January. First Vice President, Irene Doremus introduced the speaker, Mrs, Louis Woodard, who gave an inspiring talk on "Our Chinese Plant Heritage." Noting that so many of our plants such as wisteria, gardenia, and jasmine seemed to originate in China, Mrs. Woodard researched their route to this country through travelers and merchants either bringing or sending back specimens. The soil and conditions in this area were perfect for these plants. Steva Quick, a fourteen-year member of the Cape Carteret Garden Club, and an authority on the growing and care of house plants, gave an excellent talk to the PKS Garden Club members on February 11, 1998. The next meeting will take place on March 11, 9:30 a.m. at Town Hall. Catherine Maxwell, Director of Development at the J.C. Raulston Arboretum of NC State University will be the speaker. The PKS Garden Club welcomes visitors and new.members.
