m PKS Squad #65 Our EMS Squad would publicly like to thank Officer Marty Bourdeau, who recently resigned from the PKS Police Force, for his invaluable assistance to the squad and for the sincere care and concern he showed to everyone involved in each call. His dedication made our job more efficient, easier and, certainly, more pleasant. We will miss him and wish him continued success in his new position with the Carteret County Sheriff's Department. There have been times when our squad was faced with a very difficult, even dangerous, situation in removing a patient from a third floor bedroom or carrying them down very narrow staircases. And although the squad always has police assistance, we sometimes need to call the Fire Department for extra man power. As a result, these firefighters generously requested more information about our equipment and the procedures for securing patients, loading them into the ambulance, administering oxygen and transporting them to the hospital. In March, EMS Chief Ted Lindblad conducted a lengthy hands- on workshop about EMS techniques at the firefighter's regular Fire Department business meeting. CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) classes will be held for those residents who have notified Town Hall of their interest. At this time two classes will be scheduled and participants will be contacted directly. As there was no expressed interest in Blood Pressure monitoring, no sessions will be held for this sen/ice. Squad #65 responded to 6 medical calls, 3 medical assists and 1 transport in February. Submitted by: Marilyn Smetana from the PKS Police Dept. All residents should be wary of unknown individuals wanting to do work on their homes or yards. Make certain that these individuals have credentials and some type of business card or identification. When residents are ever in doubt they should call the Pine Knoll Shores Police Department. Individuals involved in housing scams are very polite, extremely confident and (in most cases) very well organized. In a case in our community, the quick thinking of a resident probably saved him a great deal of money. He became suspicious and told the individuals he was calling the Police-the scam artists quickly left the area! These scam artists even used the name of another resident that they had (supposedly) worked for, so our hero called that person! The other resident had no idea who these people were and they had not worked for him! The busy season is quickly approaching and this means out of town visitors and more automobiles in our community. Please realize that we will work with all of our citizens to help alleviate their parking woes. Residents planning a large gathering, please advise the PD in advance and maintain vehicles out of the roadways. When you plan to use an association park, please advise the proper person with that group and the PD. These simple steps may help us all to enjoy a safe and pleasant summer. Submitted by: Police Chief Mary Muhlig Opening - PKS Planning Board There is an opening on the Planning Board to fill a term expiring in September 1998.
