Pine Knoll Shores Women's Club May is National Book month. Our speaker is an author from New Bern, Flora Ann Sceance. Her book entitled “Singer of an Empty Day", a story of family life in the 1900's in N. C.'s Great Smoky Mountains. It is also Safety Month and the club still has reflector sashes for sale. They are $2.50 and are very important for wearing while walking or biking after dark, also nice to keep in your car for an emergency situation. They can be bought at the meeting or at the Town Hall at any time. The Lunch Bunch will be going after the meeting to The Crab's Claw on the Circle at Atlantic Beach. Tell Lonnie Werdel before the meeting so she can call in a count. Don't forget Pak-A-Sak receipts for Arts for Heart, cosmetics and toiletries for Domestic Violence, and unused prescription drugs for Broad Street Clinic. This will be the last regular meeting of the season. June will be the annual Spring Luncheon and will be held at the Dunes Club on june 5. Also at the May meeting, we will vote on the slate of officers that has been nominated for the 1998-99 club year. Publicity Chairman: Jeanne Mays PKS Beach Preservation Association Annual Meeting The annual nneeting is May 23, 1998 at 1:30 pnn at the Town Hall Meeting Room. The agenda will focus on beach access, Corps of Engineers Project for all of Bogue Banks, County Task Force efforts, etc. Speakers will include Mr. Murphy, County Manager; Mr. Musgrave, PKS Mayor; and Dr. Levin, BPA Chairman. Reception and Grand Opening The Friends of Bogue Banks Library will host a reception on Sunday, May 3rd, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. to celebrate the library's new art gallery. Under the direction of the Friends refurbishment has made the auditorium an Inviting setting for area artists to exhibit their creative works. New molding provides additional space for paintings, spotlights highlight selected art, and track lighting brings attention to a total exhibit. Open to the public, this inaugural event features the art of Anne Ross and Irene Julius. Exhibits Purine Mav; Exhibited against softly-painted white walls, the brilliant colors of "Sunflowers" are beautifully highlighted by the newly installed swivel spotlights. This painting by Anne Ross was the 1st Place winner in the Art for the Heart Exhibit recently enjoyed by Carteret County residents and visitors. Monoprints by Irene Julius share center stage with art by Anne Ross and her students from classes at the Emerald Isle Recreation Center. In the library's display cases, antique clocks from the collection of Lee Messner will be on display. New Books at Boeue Banks; "Reviving Ophelia^ Saving the Lives of Adolescent Girls" by Mary Bray Pipher has received much interest. The author incorporates case studies into her exploration of why young girls lose their sense of self-esteem as they enter their teenage years.
