PKS Squad #65 Clyde McKeand, Squad Communication OfRcer, has equipped the squad with four state-of-the-art, hand-held radios which allow the duty personnel to remain in communication with critical personnel (Chief, county sheriff's office, hospital, etc.) during a service call. All the members are pleased with the clarity and ease of the new radios. Teddy Wimberly, Chairperson of in- house training, will begin the new fall schedule with a hands-on demonstration of new equipment. Our squad trainings are held on the third Monday evening of each month. Carteret Community College's Adult Continuing Education Department will conduct a basic training course called " Prehospital Emergency Care" for prospective members of the Rescue Squad. The course will begin this fall on Monday, October 5. Any resident of Pine Knoll Shores who is interested in participating with the squad is welcome to attend. Please contact Chief Ted Lindblad at 240-0580, or any member of the squad for further information. Squad #65 responded to 14 medical emergencies, 3 transports, and 2-fire calls in August. Please try and attend the next Town Meeting in October to congratulate Officer Tyron Mann and Officer Don Collins. These Officers will be awarded the American Police Hall of Fame and the National Association of Chiefs of Police "Life Saving Award" This award is NATIONAL recognition for the Officers' actions, which resulted in saving a human life. The curfew that our Town was under during "Bonnie's" visit was a success. I realize it was an inconvenience but it allowed your police force to prevent break-ins and vandalism. During the curfew if the police saw any vehicle or person out in the community we could quickly stop them and investigate... believe me we turned numerous NON Pine Knoll Shore's people out of our town. This would have been impossible if everyone in town was out and about...we could not have checked on all the vehicles and people. As a result of the curfew our town had no incidents of break-ins or vandalism! Thanks for working with us and allowing us to provide you with the best possible service.
