News from the CAC- 1. We wish to thank Pine Knoll Shores Realty Company for their willingness to join us in keeping our town as presentable as possible by joining the Department of Transportation's Adopt-A-Highway program. 2. It is with great pleasure that we advise you that the N.C. Division of Forestry has agreed to provide us with a supply of free seedlings trees for the year 2001. We expect to announce the give-away program shortly after February. Manv thanks to the N.C. Division of Forest Resources! 3. Our tree inventory on town property and rights- of-way required for "Tree City U.S.A." has been delayed momentarily. It is expected to begin about mid-November (so if you see arborists moving around our town with clipboards and pocket computers, that's what they are doing.) Squad #65 The health topic this month concerns drug names. There are more than 10,000 names for the prescription drugs marketed in the United States. Plus, there are thousands of names for over-the- counter drugs. ♦ Problem: Many of these names sound the same, and can be confused by doctors, pharmacists and patients. ♦ Examples: Amrinone and Amiodarone; retrovir and ritonavic; and celebrex and celexa. The similarity in the names of the first two drugs has already resulted in several deaths. It is hoped that new computer programs can give the U.S. Food and Drug Administration more ammunition when debating proposed drug names with manufacturers and help flag potential problems. Make sure your doctor clearly types or prints the name of your prescription drug on the prescription form and notes what it is for. Be clear, yourself, exactly what you are taking. Squad 65 responded to 16 medical emergencies and 2 fire calls. Submitted by: Maureen Danehy Notice to Taxpayers The holiday season is upon us.
