Page 2 The Shoreline Jcmuarv, 2002 From the CAC... With the arrival of the year 2002, (and the concurrent arrival of seed catalogs) our thoughts turn to the coming of spring. This March, the CAC will offer its third collection of free seedling trees. If arrival is as expected, we plan to have the following available: Redbuds Laurel Oaks Red Cedars Crape Myrtles 2-year - Live Oaks More complete information will follow in upcoming Shorelines. Bob Curry, Chair Planning Board The Planning Board approved site plans and storm water management plans for Pine Knoll Shores condominiums at the site between the Sheraton and the Windjammer Inn. Plans formerly approved for a hotel on the site are no longer being considered. Notice Addressing the Pine Knoll Shores Tree Inventory Project The Town of Pine Knoll Shores is going to undertake an inventory of all trees located on town property. This inventory will allow for more comprehensive maintenance of our urban landscape. We have contracted this work to Holland Consulting Planners, Inc. (HCP), a consulting firm based out of Wilmington,NC. The HCP staff will be locating every tree located on town property using a hand held Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver. The location of each tree will then be tied to information detailing the specific type of tree and related maintenance demands. Following completion of this work the tree locations and attribute data will be mapped and tied into the Town's Geographic Information System, (GIS). Throughout this project, January to June 2002, the HCP staff will be in the field locating all trees along street right of ways, and town owned open space areas. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the project please contact Chris Jones, at 247-4353 ext. 18. Home Safety Survey Program Mr. & Mrs. Thompson never thought after 45 years of marriage and 5 children that they would ever be standing in their driveway watching the fire department going in and out of their home. A home they had dreamed of ever since before the last child had left for college. A home filled with years of memories and irreplaceable items, their two Yorkie terriers sitting puzzled beside them, as another puff of black smoke comes from the rear of the home. All of this may have been avoided, all the pain of seeing your belongings damaged and most of all the possibility of injury or worst death, all from a fire. The Pine Knoll Shores Fire Department would like to offer their expertise in helping prevent a catastrophic occurrence such as a fire in your home. Fire personnel trained in fire inspection and safety would like to conduct a fire safety survey of your home. The purpose of thi^^ survey is to identify any potential fire hazarc^P that could cause a problem. There is no fee for this service and most inspections would take less than 15 minutes, also the inspector will have information that will help you design your own fire safety plan for your home. Call: Pine Knoll Shores Emergency Services to schedule your appointment; all appointments will be conducted privately and at your convenience. Contact Chief Donald Melby or Lieutenant Mike Efferson at 247-4353 ext. 27 or ext. 26, to schedule your home fire survey. The Town of Pine Knoll Shores wants your holiday seasons and New Year to be joyous and fire safe. Sincerely, Donald Melby Emergency Services Director Quote: The trouble with aging is that by the time yoi^^ finally know your way around, you don't feei going. - unknown ^ J ■/ / M . w J J J A m J ^ ' X ^ .
