Financial Concern Facing Town of Pine Knoll Shores in the Fiscal Year 2002-2003

March Board of Commissioners Meeting
il There were two Public Hearings on March 12, 2002. The first was scheduled for 1:00 relating to a loan from the USDA,
Rural Development for renovations to the Public Safety Building. The second was scheduled for 2:00 relating to a
zoning amendment allowing structures for beach access to be constructed within side setbacks.
1 The loan resolution with the USDA, Rural Development passed for renovations to the Public Safety Building.
1 The zoning amendment allowing structures for beach access to be constructed within side setbacks in various zoning
districts passed.
1 The Board approved the architectural agreement for the Public Safety Building with such changes, as the Town
Attorney and Commissioner of Public Property deem necessary.
1 The Board approved the advertisement of tax liens.
1 The Board denied a motion to procure a mediator to hear EMS volunteer issues. The Board found no issues in the four
items listed by the Chief of EMS that could actually be mediated, (see page 2-3)
1 A decision will be forthcoming on whether the Town will purchase or build a water system. A vacancy on the Water
Advisory Board was advertised and three applied. The Board approved Bill Christman to fill the vacancy.
® The Board approved updating the 1994 schedule of job hiring rates to reflect like positions in the area. Certain job
descriptions were updated to reflect changes occurring in connection with the approval of a position for Finance Officer.
1 Resolution passed requesting Governor Michael F. Easley to remit obligated funds to cities and counties.
1 Mayor Musgrave read an Arbor Day Proclamation proclaiming March 22, 2002 as Arbor Day in Pine Knoll Shores.
® Greg Rudolph, Carteret County Shore Protection Manager, discussed the implications of 933 project.
1 During the February Work Session, the Board approved extending the moratorium on beachfront pruning for one year.
