May Board of Commissioners Meeting
^ Virginia Russell with tine NC Division of Forest Resources announced that Pine Knoll Shores was
awarded the Tree City USA designation for the 2^^ year. She presented the Mayor with a new Tree
City USA flag, plaque that goes underneath the original designating the 2'^^ year, and stickers for
the signs at the entrances to Pine Knoll Shores showing 2^^ year Tree City USA designation.
1 Nine residents applied to fill the remainder of the vacant Commissioner's term, two withdrew, the
other seven were interviewed. Two were nominated Charles "Bud" Haughey and Joan Lamson.
Charles "Bud" Haughey was appointed and given the oath of office.
Town Administrator, Betty Carr presented the Budget Message. The budget is on file in the Town
Clerk's office from May 14*^^ through June for citizen's review. The budget hearing is scheduled
for June 11*^^ at 7:00 P.M. after which the budget ordinance may be approved.
[2 The Board approved an amendment to the Ordinance to include restricting skateboards from public
property for the safety of children and to reduce liability to the town. The ordinance
now reads: §13-6. SKATEBOARDS - No person shall operate or ride a skateboard upon any of
the streets, highways, alleys, sidewalks and public properties within the Town of Pine Knoll Shores.
Notice: Please check your vehicle registration to make sure your address is listed as Pine Knoll
Shores, if it is listed as Atlantic Beach because you have a post office box or any other city than
Pine Knoll Shores, then Pine Knoll Shores does not receive the tax dollars. The tax dollars go to
the Town or City listed on your registration.
The Board approved an amendment to the Ordinance to combine the Fire and EMS Departments
into a single "Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department" to operate under a uniform set
of procedures and operating guidelines.
A resolution passed and was forwarded to legislators requesting that municipal revenue sources
be made secure. The State withheld revenues to counties and municipalities in 2001 to help
balance the State Budget.
Phillips & Jordan, Inc. was awarded the 2002 Vegetative and C&D Debris Removal Contract for
cleanup after storms. The Town may elect to hire this or another company for phase 1 "first 70
hrs" emergency debris removal.
E Carolina Water representatives once again cancelled a scheduled meeting with Pine Knoll Shores
officials to discuss a purchase price for the water company. This being the case. Mayor Gallo has
instructed the engineer to go out for bids to construct a new water system.
1=1 The June 11‘*^ meeting of the Board of Commissioners has been rescheduled for 7:00 p.m. The Board will
not meet at 2:00 p.m. This is in an effort to reach citizens that can not attend during working hours.

of Commissioners Meeting.
3 There will no longer be work session meetings on the 4th Tuesday of each month. Work sessions will follow
the regular Board of Commissioners meeting as necessary.
1 The Board voted to nominate John Fisher, resident of Beaufort County and WebbFuller, resident of Dare '
County for upcoming vacancies on the Coastal Resources Commission.
