I Am OK
By Boh Ruggiero
The I Am OK Program is a service provided for the
disabled or homebound residents by the Pine Knoll
Shores Police Department. Subscribers to this service
will be contacted daily by phone or by a visit to ensure
their peace-of-mind and safety. This program will con
tinue to ensure a better quality of life for the citizens of
Pine Knoll Shores. The I Am OK is a free service to the
residents of the town. This service is an expression of
concern for those residents that find it difficult to main
tain constant reliable contact with family or friends.
This service is available to any resident of Pine Knoll
Shores who is homebound, medically disabled, or has
special needs, either on a permanent or long-term basis.
To subscribe to this service you must fill out an enroll
ment form. The information on the application will
include your address and phone number along with
emergency contact names and phone numbers.
Each morning you will receive a phone call to check on
your well being. Calls will be made between 8;00a.m.
and 10:00a.m. The exact time of your call could vary
slightly depending on the number of residents who
request the service.
If your phone is busy or there is no answer the caller
will call back two more times. If still no answer the
caller will start emergency action. As a member of this
service you will be asked to identify key-holders who
may assist in an emergency situation. In the event that
a key-holder cannot be contacted, the resident must
understand that forced entry into the residence may be
required. Pine Knoll Shores will not be responsible for
any damages caused by a forced entry. If there is
damage, the cost of repairs will be borne by the resident.
To stop the service temporarily or permanently, call
the Pine Knoll Shores Police Department at 247-2474.
Pine Knoll Shores Police Department
One of the many services available to residents is a
Home Security Survey. An officer will come and walk
around your home with you and make recommenda
tions on making your home more resistant to criminals.
The officer can demonstrate why these recommenda
tions can help secure your home and provide you with
some low-cost solutions. The officer will also check for
smoke detectors and fire extinguishers; both are items
some insurance companies will take into account on
your premium, and are very important for your safety.
The officer will also provide you with a Home Inven
tory form to fill out and keep in a safe place. The
inventory will help you provide serial numbers and
descriptions of items stolen, and also provide you with
a current itemized list for your insurance company of
any loss in a hurricane. This list backed up with some
photographs can help insure you receive the maximum
return from your insurance company.

The CAC is alive and well thanks to the superb
leadership of Lois Jean O’Keefe during my recent
illness.
Arbor Day was observed with the planting of 50
Eleagnus bushes over the length of 125 feet as a privacy
barrier alongside the boardwalk adjacent to Ocean Glen.
The town was awarded the 4'*’ Tree City USA certifi
cate, indicating our dedication to preservation.
Personal thanks to the
many friends who prayed
for and remembered me
during my prolonged hos

Budget Hearing
By Dick Reeves
Editors note: at press time, the transcripts of the budget
hearing were not available. So this report is based on
memory and may or may not be completely accurate and
reliable.
Budget hearings were held in the town hall on Tues
day, June 8, at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. This is a report on the
2 p.m. session which was attended by a small number of
people with very few questions or comments.
In general, there is good news and bad news on the
2004-2005 Town Budget. The good news is that the
accelerating spiral of annual tax increases has been
halted for now. The bad news is that no new cuts of any
kind have been suggested by the commissioners. So you
can expect that town services and personnel will be the
same as last year and your tax bill will be roughly
equivalent to last year’s.
Specific facts and figures
may be found in the Bogue
Banks library where sev
eral complete copies of the
proposed budget are avail
able for review.
Citizen comments in
cluded disappointment at
no tax cuts, disappointment
that no progress has been
made in the Water Com
pany impasse and a need
for a new ambulance.
Moreover, there will be no
countywide EMS service
in the immediate future.
