Daydream Delight
By Gail Halada
Here I am just sittin’ and wishin’,
For someone to come and take me fishin’!
To sit by the water; to be still and wait.
For a fish to come and bite on my bait!
I’d catch that fish and reel him in.
Then I’d bring him home. Smile and grin!
I’d clean that fish and cook him for dinner.
I’d feel so good cause I caught me a winner!
Well—it may be August and it’s too hot to fish,
But 1 sure can dream and I sure can wish!
1 look at a picture and then I ponder.
It's the next best thing to fishin" over yonder!
So don't be afraid to imagine and dream.
Dreams keep you going when you want to scream!
Dreams become goals and goals become real.
Believe in yourself. Trust God and feel.
It’s good to be alive. It's good to wish.
So dinner tonight was “frozen” fish!
Meet Your Neighbors - The Malones
By Marge Green
I am so fortunate to be able to write columns for The
Shoreline’s Meet Your Neighbor. It allows me and you,
^ through my interviews with some
j,of our new neighbors, to intro-
^ duce you to them and vice versa.
I want you to meet an interest
ing couple, Shari and Jim
Malone. They just moved into
133 Holly Rd. I first met them
on the Fourth of July at Bogue
Banks Country Club when I
was going through the hot
dog line. What immediately impressed me was the fact
that while they are still getting settled in, they had time
to volunteer at one of our major events. While we are
referred to as the “Tree City”, we could also be known
as the “Volunteer City”.
Jim and Shari moved here from Blacksburg, Virginia,
home of Virginia Tech, one of the major universities in
the Virginia system. Jim retired as Director of Career
Service and Cooperative Education. Shari was involved
in many administrative functions ranging from costume
design for the theater groups to activities for the Alum
nae Association.
One always wonders how or why people find Pine
Knoll Shores, and does it meet their expectations. When
they talked of retirement, they wanted a place near the
water, with a diversified population of friendly, laid
back neighbors, and some trees. They felt PKS filled
their requirements to a tee. They had rented at Pepper-
tree, so they had some familiarity with the island. They
had checked out St. James Plantation in the Wilmington
area, and gave it a great deal of thought. That was until
they played golf at BBCC with some friends from
Emerald Isle. Jim is a golfer from way back, but when
Shari parred #16 hole that did it for her. Her mind was
made up. This is where she wanted to retire. In effect,
their choice was driven by the Bogue Banks Country
Club. The members seemed very friendly, plus the golf
course was very playable. Wilmington was forgotten.
They talked with a Realtor and started to give serious
thought to our town. They are happy with their choice.
They bought their current house in late April and
moved in June. They have two unmarried sons, one of
whom will soon marry. He seems to be a man of many
parts. He is a buyer’s administrator for a large grocery
outlet. He has done graphic design and currently is in a
management trainee program utilizing these skills. Their
older son, a recent graduate of the Scottsdale Culinary
Institute, is now actively pursuing that profession.
Jim hates the thought of going up north for any reason,
so their many friends are visiting them here this sum
mer. Jim is a fixer upper. He has many projects around
his new home to keep him occupied. Just don’t make
him go off the island. I think the one thing that could get
Jim off the island is a visit to New Zealand, where
Shari’s younger sister lives. However, before that hap
pens some tectonic plates must shift and bring that
island a little closer to ours.
Shari is the newly elected president of The Interna
tional Delta Gamma Sorority. This does require some
travel on her part. While she loves the challenge, her
heart will always be here with us.
They have several hobbies such as golf, snow skiing,
and a love for pinochle. Neither one of them seems to
need a large mall or the theater to keep them happy.
When you meet the Malones, I am sure you will find
them a wonderful addition to our town.
