Station Club, Scholarship Backed by Garden Group By Kathy Foy The Pine Knoll Shores Garden Club met February 9 at Town Hall. The program for the meeting was a “show and tell” of garden related arts and crafts created by the Garden Club members. This talented group of ladies displayed their skills in painting, photography, needlepoint, wreath-making and more. A unique and interesting story also accompanied each of the items on display. Julia Woolard, one of many well known artists in Pine Knoll Shores, was also a guest and gave the details of a beautiful floral painting she had created. The PKS Garden Club continues to have an impact not only in Pine Knoll Shores, but in Carteret County as well .The club has made a contribution to the horticultural scholarship program at Carteret Community College. The recipient of the scholarship is Megan Sledge of Morehead City. Last month’s speaker at the PKS Garden Club, Francois Boardman, inspired the members of the club to make an annual contribution to the Station Club. It was a unanimous decision to help the Station Club Horticultural Department continue its admirable work of assisting people with disabilities to obtain employment. The gardening tip of the month: If your house plants have brown edges, it is probably due to the fluoride and chlorine in the water. If possible, try to use bottled water or well water when watering your plants. This should help any new leaves stay nice and green The next meeting will be held at 9:30 a.m. March 9 at Town Hall. The guest speaker will be Master Gardener Carolyn Hoss. Her topic will be Flora of South Africa for Coastal Gardens. Membership is open to all residents of Pine Knoll Shores. If anyone is interested in becoming a member, please contact the club President Kay Howe at 240-0987.
