5K Run/Walk for Shelter
Coastal Women’s Shelter is
sponsoring its 8"' annual “Run for Shelter:
Stop Domestic Violence in its Tracks”
5k RunAValk and Children’s Fun Run/
Walk on Saturday, May 14 in downtown
New Bern. Coastal Women’s Shelter is
a comprehensive domestic violence
program supporting Craven, Jones, and
Pamlico Counties. Proceeds from the
run will support the programs of CWS.
Registration for the free fun run/walk
will be available from 7:00 a.m. to 7:45
a.m. at the Sheraton Grand parking lot.
Children are welcome and parents are
encouraged to participate. The fun run/
walk will begin at 7:45 a.m.. Participation
ribbons will be awarded to all registrants.
Race t-shirts will be available for $ 10.00.
Registration forms are available at
local gyms, sporting goods stores, and
the New Bern Visitor Center. Pre-
registration for the 5k run/walk, available
through the mail, is $ 15 ($ 12.00 military).
Online registration is available at
www.activc.com. All pre-registration
must be postmarked no later than May 10.
Race day registration and packet pick-up will
be from 7:00a.m. to 7:45 a.m. at the Sheraton
Grand parking lot. The race day registration
fee is $18. The 5k run/walk will begin
immediately following completion of the fun
run/walk.
The 5k course is certified by the Road
Running Technical Council. Finish line and
scoring will be provided by Young and
Associates. Awards will be given to the overall
P‘, 2"**, and 3'^'* place male and female and to
the P‘, 2"“*, and 3"* place male and female
runners in each age group. No duplicate
awards.
Volunteers are needed at the Sheraton
Grand to help on the day of the race from
7:00am to 10:00am for registration,
monitoring the race course, and providing
finish line timings.
Prize and food donations also are needed
for the day of the race.

Barbershop Chorus Slates
Annual Show

On Saturday April 23 at 8 p.m., the
Southern Gentlemen invite you to take a trip
down memory lane. Come join them as they
present their 12“’ annual show titled “Just
Plain Barbershop.” The show will be at
Grover C. Fields Middle School, 2000 Martin
Luther King Boulevard in New Bern.
Advance tickets are $13. At the door the
ticket price is $15.
In addition to the barbershop chorus you
will be entertained by two Southern
Gentlemen chapter quartets, the Southern
Knights and Tradition. We will again have
two long-time favorite ladies groups from
Emerald Isle. One is the award-winning
quartet. Four on the Isle, the other is The
Southern Belles Chorus. To highlight the
evening one of the best barbershop quartets
