Public Beach Access - We have opened
one of our required new public beach
access sites. It is in the western end of
town. We will likely have another one
in that section opened in January or
February. We still intend to have a town
hall meeting prior to our presentation to
the corps of engineers.
Rumble Strips - We are placing rumble
strips on stretches of Oakleaf and Mimosa
where there have been complaints of
speeding.
Changes in Water Billing-We are going

Police Report
During November, there were 42
calls for service including: 2 assist other
agencies, 8 assist fire/EMS, 3 town
ordinance violations, 31 safety checks, 10
alarms and 2 unlocked doors.
Twenty-nine citations involving 35
charges were issued: 22 speeding, 2
driving with a suspended license and 11
other; ninety-eight warning tickets were
issued. Surprisingly, there were no drug
or alcohol violations.
There were 78 residence checks and 259
business checks.
One house was broken into on the east
side of town. The speeding situation on
Oakleaf from the Club to 58 has improved;
however, now the speeding is from Brock
Basin to the Mimosa Bridge.
Rumble strips were mentioned as an
alternative to speed bumps because
they are cheaper. Mayor Lamson asked
whether the cost would be covered under
the Powell Bill. The finance officer will do
the research.
Winter Adventure Camp
Offered at Aquarium
Turn your fourth orfifth grader's January
break into an unforgettable adventure at a
day camp at the North Carolina Aquarium
at Pine Knoll Shores. The Coastal Explorers
for children in grades four and five runs
January 19 through 21, from 8:30 a.m. to
2:45 p.m. daily. Campers meet members
of the aquarium dive team, help aquarists
with animal care and experience close
encounters with sea turtles, alligators,
snakes and other aquatic animals during
exclusive behind-the-scenes action. Other
hands-on activities include discovery labs
and crafts. Outdoors, participants explore
the surrounding maritime forest, marsh
and Bogue Sound.
Advance registration is required, and
space is limited. The camps cost $100
per child with a 10 percent discount for
aquarium members. For more information
or to register, call 247-4003 or visit www.
ncaquariums.com.
