Bargain Dining By Jane Ashland Due to the downturn in the economy, dining out may not be high on people's priority list. Soseveralsmartrestaurateurs in the area have made their prices very attractive for either lunch or dinner. • Shepard's Point in Morehead City has luncheon specials Wednesday through Saturday for $7.99. Recently we enjoyed a scallop and shrimp dish and also a fancy beef stew entree which were both delicious. • Calypso North on N.20* St. in Morehead City serves what they call a medium entree at one-half the price of their full entree. One of the entrees we enjoyed was a seafood crepe with shrimp and scallops for $12.95. • Frank and Clara's in Indian Beach are known for their traditional southern fare. One favorite is their Clam Chowder which was full of flavor. • Island Grill in Atlantic Beach has a two-for-one on Monday and Tuesday night. It would be best to make a reservation or get there early as they are busy on those nights and it gets very crowded. • Sharpies in Beaufort has reopened and will be open for lunch, dinner and late evening dinners on the weekends. • Carlton's in Salter Path/Indian Beach has moved to Ocean Club Spa and has a new menu. No more ‘waisted’ efforts Continued from page 1 My grandmother and grandfather dance the night away in May 2008 at my cousin Jake's wedding. This year marks their 57th wedding anniversary. Photo courtesy of Regan White hours before surgery (thanks to a God- given sleeping pill that I'd really like to get my hands on one of these days), I thought more about love than I did waistlines or peimy loafers. As my grandfather's first-born grandchild. I'm a lot more like him than I'd ever admit. Much as I like to sigh and stress over his intensely German obstinance, the strudel didn't fall far from that apple tree, if you know what I mean. When the nurse came to wheel my grandfather to surgery, I thought about all the things that are never said enough. Things like "Thanks for coaching my soccer teams for so many years" or "Thank you for always calling me Regan Baby" or "I love you more than I ever let on." There's no guarantee we'll see tomorrow. It's a trite saying that everyone knows, but which feels a lot different when said on the eve of a day we fear niightlie'ouf l^t - or fhe^ last "of someone we love dearly. Pa made it through with flying colors and was released from the hospital on St. Patrick's Day - a fabulous omen for such an Irish-German family. With a bit of recovery time under his belt, and the removal of a pesky, cancerous kidney that was revealed during his stay here, my grandfather should be good to go for his 80th birthday this June. And about those "waisted" efforts? They don't seem like such a waste after all. Let someone you love know it, before you lose them.
