The Pine Knoll Shores Women's Club
ended its 2008-09 year with a luncheon
on June 5, organized by hospitality
chairs, Donna Belanger and Kay Howe.
Members enjoyed dining in the beautiful
beach atmosphere of the Coral Bay
Club. President, Gail Halada, welcomed
members. PKS mayor and member, Joan
Lamson, gave the invocation.
President Halada summarized the year
with a poem highlighting activities and
thanking all who served the commimity
through their work in the club. Its title
was "Life's Good! How Sweet It Is!"
Decor reflected the theme with
centerpieces of lollipops and
daisies and individual name tags
with candy designs. Each board
member, committee head and special
interest leader received a large lollipop
with a thank you note as they were
told, "With every lick, please knowhow
sweet you are and how good you have
been to me."
The poem also honored deceased
membersDelGallo, AliceGarrison,Doris
Blackwell and Lola Council. During
the year, members contributed to the
College Scholarship Fund in their
names. Latest recipient, Jessica Stubbs, a
student at Carteret Community College,
was present at the luncheon.
Other donations included Caroline's
House playroom needs. Labels for
Education to local schools, meals for
ill members and monetary donations
to the Boys and Girls Club, Relay for
Life, Broad St. Clinic, Friends of Bogue
Banks Library, Domestic Violence and
Community Emergency Response Team
(CERT).
The poem also highlighted
the variety and style of monthly
speakers, the interesting famous
women presentations, club work on
the Festival of Trees, participating in
the town Christmas Parade, the hostess
treats at each meeting. Supper Club
gatherings. Cook's Night Out, Book
Clubs discussions. Arts and Culture
events, new committees updating
bylaws and job descriptions and the
historian's detailed scrapbook display
of all the year's activities.
During the year, the club welcomed
all women and newcomers to our town
fulfilling the theme "Reach out and
touch someone!" The club feels they
reached that goal with their membership
growth to number 117. President
Halada reminded members that she
enjoyed every moment of her office and
that was reflected in her sweet retreat
from office.
Mayor Joan Lamson installed the
2009-10 officers: President, Linda
Strader; Vice-President, Barbara
Bagby; Recording Secretary, Ann
Erickson; Corresponding Secretary,
Floranne Passino, and Treasurer, Loretta
