Page 2 The Shoreline September 2009 K R A M E R’ S O A monthly Report R by Town Manager N Brian Kramer E on events R in town. Here are some of things going on at town hall and around the town: • Dredging of the Canal- About the time you are reading this we will have begxm moving about 2,000 cubic yards of spoils from the shallow areas of the canal. While we won't get every spot, we hope to get the worst. We also will address some of the bad spots in the town's "channel," the area that runs parallel to the line on the soimd. We'll do our best to prevent sand/mud on the road between the spoils pick-up points (Brock Basin, Davis Landing, Hall Haven, Ramsey Park) and the drop-off point (the Public Services Bldg.), but expect to have something on the road. Dick Belanger, point man on behalf of the citizen boaters has really made this happen. Our thanks are extended. • Sidewalks- The planning effort is continuing. Thank you to the additional 80+ people who responded to last month's survey. We may have a plan to brief the Board of Commissioners as soon as this fall. Call or come see me if you want to get a bead on what's been discussed. • Water Leaks- We have had a few leaks in town that have caused some outages. Sormy Cunningham has been on top of these and fixed them in short order. If you see free standing water collecting and not draining near a road, andif we didn't just have some rain, call Sonny at 723-0055. • Inappropriate behavior on the beach- This summer we've had several incidents of a man (or perhaps more than one man) wearing no clothes approaching young females on the beach strand. The best response to this is an immediate 911 call—this is the fastest way to get an officer on scene. If you see someone on beachfront area Got An Idea? Have you read an article in a paper or magazine and wondered about the origin of the piece of writing? Have you thought: "I could do something like that?" Do you have an idea that you believe would be of interest to others? Do you have a story that you want to share? If you have answered in the affirmative to any of these questions, why don't you crank-up your home computer and access the word processor and begin to write. If you don't have a computer, you can rely on your venerable typewriter to put your thoughts on paper. For those chronologically gifted without knowledge of or access to these "new fangled" mechanical and electronic devices, a pad of paper and a pencil can serve as your means of teUing your story. A number of the articles that appear in The Shoreline come from our readers, people just like you. Someone had a thought, an idea or a story they wanted to share. They expressed it in written form and submitted it to the paper for consideration. Many of these submissions become articles that appear in our monthly publication. So if you have an idea and are able to present it in writing, consider sending it to The Shoreline. The parameters of what is published are fairly broad. However, we do not deal with political issues or debate, and items from the internet will not be considered. When submitting an article we prefer that it is in Word for Windows, utilizing Rich Text Format, and arrives via e-mail as an attachment. Our e-mail address is shoreline@townofpks.com. Of course, we wiU acceptyour article even if you are among those of us who are electronically challenged. In such cases, send snail mail to The Shoreline, 100 Mimidpal Circle, Pine Knoll Shores, NC 28512 or drop it off at town hall. properties that looks out of place, make the call. • Post-Storm web site info- If/when we have an event this season, we will have an inf o-link on our website that wall provide information on road closures, power outages, street closures, bridge conditions, etc. • Golf Tournament to benefit "Shop-with-A-Cop Program"- There will be a golf tournament on Saturday, September 19 at 9 a.m. at the Country Club of the Crystal Coast.
