O A monthly Report

E on events
R in town.
Happy Fall to everyone. Here is what
is happening at Town Hall:
Audit of Town Finances- As required
by North Carolina law, the town is
audited each year. The audit report was
presented to the Board of Conunissioners
on September 25 and has been forwarded
to the state treasurer's office. In short, we
are in fine shape. If you use our reserves
as a measuring stick, we have made
significant progress from our position 24
months ago. We are going to produce a
more readable version of the document
and will post both this and the formal
audit on our website.
Agreement with Carteret County
and Our Neighboring Communities
for Beach Renourishment- There is a
considerable amount of effort underway
to develop an island-wide plan for
beach renourishment. The intent is to
streamline the permitting process with
state and federal agencies and coordinate
the renourishment of sand along all
of Bogue Banks (as opposed to towns
doing it on their own). PKS is a major
stakeholder here and will be involved
heavily in this. Call if you want to set up
a sit-down with me, and I will let you
know where we stand.
Reminder: Automatic Bank Drafts
for Water Billing- We have the best in
the business in Cormie Shelton when
it comes to tax collection and water
billing. On her behalf. I'd like to remind
everyone that we have the capability to
accept payment for our water system via
automatic bank draft. Please call Cormie
at 247-4353, ext 12, if you would like to
set this up.
Mimosa Bridge Replacement- The
DOT has just completed a lengthy
review of our engineer's initial project
description document. We willsoonsign
a contract with them and start Phase
I—the planning phase. This will likely
take most of 2010. The bridge will be
replaced in 2011.
ProtectingOiu’WaterSystem-Inserted
in this issue of The Shoreline is a flyer
about our wellhead protection program.
Please take a look at it to leam about
some ways to help protect our water
system.
Dinner with the Town Manager - My
next dinner will be Friday, October 16
(not October 17 as reported last month). It
wiU be at the Clamdigger at 5:30 p.m.

of five of the tovm's commissioners, has
also entered the race for mayor. Those
seeking to fill the three commissioner
seats are Doug Browne, Larry Corsello,
John Halada and Larry Kacmarcik. Each
of these six candidates has provided
The Shoreline with a brief biographical
sketch and a photo which are found on
page 12 and 13. The person garnering
the most votes for mayor will serve for
two years while the three successful
commissioner candidates will hold office
for four years.
Again this year, there are three ways
that registered voters may make their
preference known: the traditional casting
of a ballot on Election Day, November
3, submitting an Absentee ballot before
the November 2 deadline or registering
and utilizing One-Stop Voting prior to
the October 31 deadline.
Town hall will be the place to cast your
traditional ballot between the hours of
6:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. on November
3. Requests for Absentee ballots must
be made in writing and received in the
County Board of Elections office by 5
p.m. on October 27. Absentee voting
began on September 14 and continues
until 5 p.m. on November 2. One-Stop
Voting is held in the Board of Elections
office, 1702 Live Oak Street, Suite 200,
Beaufort begirming October 15, Monday
through Friday, during the hours of 8
a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Saturday, October
31 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
If you are not already registered to
vote, you may do so by completing a
registration form and returning it to the
Board of Elections office by 5 p.m. on
Friday, October 9. Registration forms are
available at the Board of Elections office
or on-line at www.carteretcountyboe.
org. If you miss the October 9 deadline,
you may register "In-Person" and cast
your ballot during the One-Stop voting
period.
If youhave questions or need additional
voting information, contact the Carteret
County Board of Elections at 728-8460.
If you have a question for any of the
candidates, you will have an opportunity
on Tuesday, October 13, at town hall
when the scheduled League of Women
Voters' forum gets underway at 7 p.m.
and concludes at 9 p.m.
