Americanflags for the entrance. Morehead's Party Shop
also helped by donating a helium tank for balloons to
decorate the fences.
The silent auction was quite varied this year—bigger
and better than ever thanks to JoArme Shallcross
and her able team, who took the reins on that project
once again. Many thanks to the sponsors (individuals
and businesses) who made this auction the success
it was.
I was in charge of lunch at the event and want to
thank all the local grocers (Lowes Foods, Harris Teeter,
Food Lion and Wal-Mart) who made the limcheon
possible by donating food; our local delis, who made
salads for the affair (New York Deli, Garden Gate
Deli and the White Swann); and Panera's and a few
local neighborhood bakers, who donated cookies for
dessert.
The event would not have been as well attended
if not for the tireless advertising skills of Maureen
Kilgallen, who handles the RAC marketing and
advertising duties.
So many willing volunteers donated their time
and sponsors donated either money or goods. Linda
Brickhouse, who works at the reception window
at town hall helped tremendously by keeping our
paperwork orderly. Our first corporate sponsorship,
received from Enterprise Car rental in Morehead City,
started our fund with a big splash this year. We hope
it's the first of many corporate sponsorships for similar
events in the years to come.
At the end of the day, we all feel proud to do anything
helpful for the military folk who have done so much
for us!

chosen as a forum scholar from a select group of
top students nationally, and he will be representing
his school and his community at the forum. As a
participant, he will be challenged and motivated
academically as he interacts with practicing medical
professionals who are likewise participating in the
event.
This National Leadership Forum on Medicine is an
educational opportunity that provides early training
and guidance for the academic and career advancement
of aspiring scientific professionals. For their studies
during the forum, scholars like Shane will receive
college credit granted by George Mason University.
Congratulations Shane.
Library Seeking
Used Books
By Dot Miller
In preparation for the annual Summer Used Book
Sale sponsored by the Bogue Banks Public Library,
members of the Friends of the Library board are asking
that Pine Knoll Shores residents cuU all those books
that are simply taking up space and give them to the
Friends' board for the sale scheduled for Friday and
Saturday, August 13 and 14, at Shepherd of the Sea
Lutheran Church, Atlantic Beach.
All categories of books will be appreciated—
hardbacks, paperbacks, fiction, nonfiction, history, art,
mysteries and cookbooks, to name a few. Donations of
CDs, DVDs and jigsaw puzzles will also be appreciated.
This really is a great chance to sort through your
books and give them to a worthy cause-your public
library. Proceeds from the sale will be used to keep
the library open and responsive to needs during
these times of restricted fxinds. Books may be left at
the Bogue Banks Library, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Mondays
through Saturdays.
The Used Book Sale will open to "Friends of the
Library" only at 7 p.m. Friday evening, August 13.
Hours for the general public are from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Saturday, August 14.
All residents of Bogue Banks are asked to support the
library by becoming a Friend of the Library. Annual
individual membership is $10; family membership
is $15. Drop by the library for further information.
Membership enrollment will also be open during the
hours of the book sale.
While at the library, be sure to check out The Book
Nook across from the entrance where an ever-changing
selection of hardbacks is available at amazingly low
prices. The Bogue Banks Library is indeed an asset to
our commimity.
