Growing Continued from page 1 Americanflags for the entrance. Morehead's Party Shop also helped by donating a helium tank for balloons to decorate the fences. The silent auction was quite varied this year—bigger and better than ever thanks to JoArme Shallcross and her able team, who took the reins on that project once again. Many thanks to the sponsors (individuals and businesses) who made this auction the success it was. I was in charge of lunch at the event and want to thank all the local grocers (Lowes Foods, Harris Teeter, Food Lion and Wal-Mart) who made the limcheon possible by donating food; our local delis, who made salads for the affair (New York Deli, Garden Gate Deli and the White Swann); and Panera's and a few local neighborhood bakers, who donated cookies for dessert. The event would not have been as well attended if not for the tireless advertising skills of Maureen Kilgallen, who handles the RAC marketing and advertising duties. So many willing volunteers donated their time and sponsors donated either money or goods. Linda Brickhouse, who works at the reception window at town hall helped tremendously by keeping our paperwork orderly. Our first corporate sponsorship, received from Enterprise Car rental in Morehead City, started our fund with a big splash this year. We hope it's the first of many corporate sponsorships for similar events in the years to come. At the end of the day, we all feel proud to do anything helpful for the military folk who have done so much for us! See pictures on page 22 and 23.
