VIPS Program By Bill Matthias The Atlantic Beach- Pine Knoll Shores Volunteers In Police Service (VIPS) pro gram provides an opportunity for citizens who wish to volunteer their time and skills with the Pine Knoll Shores Public Safety Department and/or the Atlantic Beach Police Department. Incorporating volunteers into a law enforcement envi ronment allows the departments to achieve the best possible public safety service, beyond what a departments budget can provide. Citizens belong to one VIPS team but can volunteer for either or both towns. Volunteers can help with administrative work, patrolling, traffic control, residential and business checks, beach checks and in any fashion they feel they can assist. Cur rently in Pine Knoll Shores, VIPS volunteers assist with administrative duties and residential checks. All volunteers must go through a background check and training for their particular duties. So when you see the VIPS vehicle driving through town, stop and wave; it’s one of your neighbors helping keep the town safe and secure. For citizens interested in donating volunteer time with the Pine Knoll Shores Public Safety Department, there are volunteer positions open in VIPS, the Fire Corps, CERT and firefighting.
