e Library ‘Tiny Dancer” by Pat Warnke Happenings for August 2011 Adult Summer Reading Program. Hie drawing of the Summer Reading Pro gram winners will take place on Friday August 26. Winners’ names will be posted on the library’s Web site. Winners have two weeks to pick up prizes after notifica tion by phone. Beaufort Realty is providing the grand prize: a three-night vacation in a wonderful waterfront condo with fantastic views of Carrot Island and Taylor’s Creek. Second prize is a $50 gift certificate for Wal-Mart. Third prize is a $25 gift certificate for Dee Gee’s Gifts & Books. Read or listen to the books you like at your own pace. Record the titles and authors on a Reader’s Log. After finishing five titles, present your Reader’s Log at the circulation desk of your library for a prize drawing. There is no limit to the number of Reader’s Logs per patron. Every completed log will be included in the prize drawings. Activities for Children. Preschool Storytime is held each Thursday at 10 a.m. August 4 will be “Shukran.” August 11 will be “Efharisto.” August 18 will be “Grazzi.” August 25 will be “Mahalo.” Thursday Preschool Storytime is for ages 3-5. Programs are with Ms. Brita. Featured Artwork. In August, the Art Gallery of the Bogue Banks Public Library in Pine Knoll Shores will feature fine art by a select group of Pine Knoll Shores’ artists. These local artists work in a diverse range of media and styles, de picting beach and coastal scenes as well as florals, children, animals and abstracts. Pine Knoll Shores’ creativity will also be on display in the showcases where the wood carving of local residents will be exhibited. Each crafter has an individual style, and subject matter includes seabirds, waterfowl, nautical objects and whimsi cal figures. Please plan to join our gallery artists at the public reception on Friday, August 12, from 3-4 p.m. in the Art Gallery. Public Safety Reminder: Residents and visitors need to stay alert for the possibility of being victims of theft. Everyone should lock their doors to homes, sheds, ga rages and vehicles. During June, 39 incidents were written up as reports by the Fire Division. There were seven false alarms and false calls, two fires, one good intent call, one hazardous condition (no fire), 25 rescue & EMS incidents and three service calls. These incidents include some mutual aid calls to Atlantic Beach and Indian Beach. Public Safety personnel participated in 114.5 hours of training. No fire inspections were conducted during June. Some of the incidents that the Police Department investigated during June include: 16 hang-up calls to 911 7 arrests 1 assault/fight 1 breaking, entering and larceny 3 damage to property 5 larcenies 2 noise complaints 3 fireworks complaints 6 suspicious people 3 suspicious activities 13 suspicious vehicles 83 verbal warnings 6 well-being checks 3 accidents with property damage 8 alarm activations I arrest for DWI 20 assist fire and EMS 6 breaking and entering 99 business checks 6 citizen assists 43 follow-up investigations 4 “I Am OK” checks II mutual aid/assist other agencies 31 unlocked doors 5 residence checks 4 town ordinance violation citations 1 trespassing 43 warrants August 2011 I The Shoreline 15 Absolutely . . .
