Byjacquie Pipkin It’s going to take $10,000 to complete the construction of Pine Knoll Shores’ Dog Park. Thus far $2,500 in tax-deductible contributions has been made. The official opening of the Dog Park will be during the 2011 Thanksgiving holiday, pro vided that enough contributions are received in a timely manner for construction to begin. Tlie dog park will be constructed on the grounds of Veterans’ Memorial Park in the town hall complex. Shrubbery will be planted around the perimeter. There will be areas for small and large dogs. Benches, water and toilet facilities will be avail able. Covered trash cans and plastic bag dispensers will be provided. The committee has been planning and designing the facility for the past two years in collaboration with the Board of Commis sioners (BOC) to ensure that the park will enhance the quality of life for residents and their canine companions. Last year, over 400 signatures were obtained in support of a dog park. We extend our sincere appreciation to the citi zens of Pine Knoll Shores for their vote of sup port, which undoubtedly contributed to our success in obtaining a municipal site for the park. We also wish to thank local residents Jerry and Lee Miller and Allen and Darlene Smith as well as Patty Swetz of New Zealand for their generous contributions in kicking off our fundraising campaign. Our priority now is to collect the remainder of the needed funds to proceed with construction. This will be an all-volunteer constructed and maintained facility. No tax dollars will be spent for this project. What we do need, however, is you, the citizens of Pine Knoll Shores, to help in this final stage of making the dream of a lo cal dog park a reality. Checks for your tax deductible contributions should be made to Town of PKS - Municipal Dog Park. Checks can be dropped off at town hall or mailed to Town of Pine Knoll Shores - Municipal Dog Park, 100 Municipal Circle, Pine Knoll Shores, NC 28512. In addition, we need your contributions of time and energy to complete con struction and ongoing maintenance. We encourage you to share your talents and expertise by serving on one or more of the various committees currently being formed.
