Before the Board of Commissioners’ meeting on March 13, the foyer of town hall became crowded with people. The purpose
of the gathering was to honor past editors of The Shoreline. At the beginning of the commissioners’ meeting, Ellen Peirce, Betty
Carr and Charlie McBriarty joined me in presenting to the Town of Pine Knoll Shores a plaque listing the names of all past edi
tors and their years of service, dating back to 1973.

The Outlook
for Gasoline
Prices

Fasten your seat belts. Here we go
again. Just like last year at this time, oil
prices are on the move once more. The
average pump price of regular gasoline
has increased in the last nine weeks
from $3.29 per gallon on January 2 to
$3.87 per gallon on March 19, an in
crease of $0.38 in just two months. On
a year-to-date basis, global crude oil
prices are averaging about $15 per bar
rel above last year, and gasoline prices
in early March were running about
$0.31 a gallon above where they were
last year at this time.

price increases were driven by a com
bination of economic recovery, rapid
growth in global oil demand and by
the supply uncertainties created by the
