Ots'gnsMdui CMtV ISF IblM Md of>ionhCwtilto«i Carolinas Center -for JOINT AND Spine A Division of Carteret General Hospital The Kontras Quartet The American Music Festival presents a classically beautiful concert by the Kontras Quartet at the History Place in Morehead City on Saturday, April 14, at 8 p.m. The program will feature well-loved music by Beethoven, Schubert, Ravel and Piazzola. The players of the Kontras come to Carteret County from the four corners of the world. Violinist Dmitrr Pogorelov is from Russia. Violinist Francois Hen- kins is from South Africa. Violist Ai Ishida is from Japan. Cellist Jean Hatmaker is from the US. This unique quartet is currently in the second year of its tenure as the Hickory Metro Resident Quartet with the V^estern Piedmont Symphony The Kontras Quartet has been lauded as a “tightly crafted and beautiful instru ment” and is one of the most vibrant young string quartets on the scene today. The Kontras Quartet is passionate about reaching people of diverse backgrounds and different ages through music. They typically present engaging-explanations about the background and context of the music they are performing, which our audience is sure to enjoy. The works to be performed include Beethoven’s String Quartet in B Flat major, Schuberts Quartettsatz D703, Ravels String Quartet in F Major and Piazzolas Four for Tango. Beethoven and Schubert are always popular selections. The Ravel String Quartet is one of the most widely performed chamber music works in the classical repertoire. The Four for Tango offers a different feeling and abounds with interest ing but strange instrumental effects. Individual concert tickets are $25.00. Discount $15.00 tickets are available for full-time students and teachers and for active-duty military personnel. Concert tickets may be reserved by calling 726-0478 or may be purchased at the door.
