Trinity Center (Continued from 1) groups and can include classes running three to six hours, on barrier island ecology, educational beach walks and turtle talks, lessons featuring the centers birds of prey as well as hands-on exploration of the maritime forest, sound, beach and an on site freshwater pond. Sound to Sea can accommodate up to 96 children in four dorms. Lodging is also available for adult chap erones. All meals are provided onsite. One-day programs can be offered to meet a specific group’s needs. Summer camps for children in grades 3-12 run weekly in June, July and August. Camp activities include swimming, sailing, canoeing, arts and crafts, team sports, singing, skits and dances, as well as Christian education and worship. The Trinity Center is also a resource for adults. For groups, it provides a place for retreats, conferences, workshops, train ing programs, team building sessions, family reunions and other gatherings. Reasonable rates for group meetings include not only meeting space but also lodging, three meals a day, audio-visual equipment, coffee set-ups and snacks for morning or afternoon breaks. For individuals, Trinity Center is a perfect location for seeking solitude to work through personal problems. Writers wanting quiet and the inspiration of a waterfront setting find facilities here as ideal for finishing a book. The centers Pelican House, on the oceanfront, is especially popular for guided spiri tual retreats, silent retreats or just quiet personal time. During the off-season, Road Scholar (formerly Elderhostel), internation ally known for educational travel and lifelong learning, offers a series of programs here, attracting people from all over to Trinity’s beautiful setting for photography, birding, and the exploration of topics related to our coastal location. This grant was made possible thanks to local realtors who sponsored an annual golf tournament fundraising event at Starhill Golf Course last November. Their donations were matched by the state foundation. Local Realtor Association President Mark Mansfield presented Habitat Director Kris Durham with a check on the porch of a Habitat home located at 113 Faith Lane in Newport May 10. Crystal Coast Habitat for Humanity had its 85th groundbreak ing ceremony on May 17 for the Ware family. Habitat has built more than 80 homes locally and helped almost 500 individuals obtain housing during the past 23 years.
