P/The^^. ohoreline t Vol. 10, No.2 A Shoreline Community, Pine Knoll Shores, N.C, r..- 2013 Holiday Beach Cleanup Byjohn Brodman The post-July 4 holiday beach cleanup in Pine Knoll Shores took place this year on July 8, starting at the Iron Steamer beach access We had a record turnout of 44; volunteer participants who donned work gloves and carried plastic trash bags to their as signed sections of the towns beach to ferret out and pick up the litter left over from the Independence Day crowds There were enough volunteers to cover all sections of the beach and some of the canal-front and soundside marinas and parks as well. Aluminum cans, plastic bottles, paper food-service containers, wrappers and cigarette butts were common items found, along with the residue (cardboard tubes and paper wadding) left over from fireworks, broken chairs, pieces of lumber broken Wtes, towels, occasional articles of clothing and flip-flops. Only three Rolex watches were found by lucky volunteers this vear (just kidding). Since September 10, 2012, Natalie has been an administra tive support specialist for Public Safety as well as human resource officer for the town. She is responsible for all human resource functions, including benefits and workmans compensation. She also provides administrative support for both the fire and police departments. Prfor to coming to Pine Knoll Shores, Natalie was a Carteret County em ployee, working as a police/fire/EMS dispatcher at the 911 Center for two years. She came to that job after spend ing some time in the medical field Natalie grew up in Goldsboro, where she attended Southern Wayne High School. After high school, she went to Carteret Community College, where she is planning to re-enroll for the fall semester. Her plan is to get a bachelor s degree in business administration with a concentration in human resource management. Currently, Natalie lives on Markers Island with her husband, Rex, who is a captain at the Beaufort Fire Depart ment.
