le ocean eats away at the snow- and ice-covered frozen .sand
in early February large flocks of Robins and Cedar Waxwings were
inging through Pine Knoll Shores. As the photo shows, the waxwings
are incredibly beautiful and “precisely” colored birds. They eat the
seeds of the cedar trees, so our town with its many cedar trees is a
avored spot to feed. Based on a tip from bird lovers Donna and Dick
ielanger that waxwings love a supply of fresh unfrozen water, simple
lie plates of water were put out to attract these birds. The red on the
wing tips is indeed a form of wax, so they are properly named!
