I'oiiiiii y C^ui) of Ihe Crysral Goas^ ...where/riethis conm-ct . ByTomTempel •' ' This article will cover the 2014 Fourth of July cele bration at the Country Club of the Crystal Coast, but first I want to extend congratulations to the CCCC Men’s 65-and-Over tennis team. They recently did themselves and the club proud by bringing home the 2014 state championship in their division. Look for full details elsewhere in this issue of The Shoreline. The Fourth of July celebration this year was the best Elaine and I have ever attended, and we had our granddaughter Ella with us, which made it even more special. We had more children attend with their parents this year than ever before. Martha Edwards, Bonnie Ferneau and some of the staff ar ranged terrific kids’ activities, too numerous to list, but enjoyed by all and capped off with ATV rides around the golf course. There were prizes for all Photo by Sandra Hale wmners. Everyone had fun at this big club function, and especially enjoyed the camarade rie. This was our biggest Fourth of July event in the past four years, with 459 people attending. Some local residents came at 9 p.m., paying $5 to enter and enjoy the fireworks. A special component of this year’s celebration was a wedding reception in the member lounge for 30 people that Joan Lamson arranged for her grandson, Joel Rathbone, and his wife, Hester (aka Jinx) Hiorpe Rathbone, from Cleveland, Ohio. They were married earlier in the afternoon on the beach near Joan’s beach house in Emerald Isle where they had met two years ago. Joel has vacationed at Joan’s beach house with his parents from Cleveland since he was a baby. Special kudos go to General Manager Chip Chamberlin and the entire CCCC staff who reported to work early to clean up after the hurricane the day before. Chip made a good call not to cancel the event. After the cleanup, the staff did an amazing job setting everything up for the celebra tion. All deserve a very special thank you. The food for the cookout was wonder ful; the serving staff was very responsive; and the ice cream, cookies, brownies and watermelon were big hits. Executive Chef Scott Stiehl and Dining Room and Bar Manager Aubrey Ipock and their staffs did a terrific job. The DJ was a welcome addition and everyone enjoyed the music, especially during the fireworks. Barbara Costanza helped with decorations and other activities. Good food, good beverages, good con versation, nice music, fun activities and the best fireworks display we have ever had made for a very special day. Special thanks to Golf Course Superintendent Andy Ipock and his staff for the fireworks and a lot of heavy labor in every area of the party. We look forward to the Fourth of July next year, during our 40th anniversary celebration.
