Owner Starlyn Miller studied fashion and fashion marketing in her early life, but has worked in the medical field for the last 20 years. State Archives webinars on protecting important photos and documents are available. Whether you need advice on what documents to take with you if you must evacuate your home, information on techniques for storing photographs or tips on protecting old letters and other valuable papers from normal deterioration, the State Archives of North Carolina can help. The State Archives’ YouTube channel, vww.youtube.com/ncarchives, offers a series of online tutorials to help preserve your family treasures. “The Care and Handling of Family Papers” tutorials were developed in conjunction with the State Historical Records Advisory Board, funded by a grant from the National Historical Records and Publications Commission. Identifying and Protecting Essential Family Records provides an overview of how to identify^ what family records and papers are crucial to collect and protect in the event of a natural or man-made disaster. Gewera/ Paper Preservation Tips describes how paper deteriorates and the steps you can take to extend the life of family papers in your care. Caring for and Sharing Family and Personal Papers is a step-by-step guide on how to organize, care for and share family papers. The Care and Preservation of Family Photographs provides an overview of the care and handling, dos and don’ts of handling photographs—and when to consult a conservator. Managing and Preserving Digital Images emphasizes the importance of good management and recordkeeping and gives suggestions for easy access and tips for retaining most digital data. For further information, call 919-807-7326. The State Archives is part of the Office of Archives and History within the N.C. Department of Cultural Resources. Choral Society seeks new members. The Crystal Coast Choral Society, under the direction of Finley Woolston, will resume regular rehearsals on Tuesday, September 2, from 7-9 p.m. in the fellowship hall of the Swansboro United Methodist Church at 665 W. Corbett Avenue (Highway 24) in Swansboro. This is a four-part, mixed-voice chorus which meets weekly to prepare for concerts in December and in the spring. All parts are needed in this non-auditioned chorus. Music performed is a combination of sacred, secular, folk and pop, as well as major pieces such as Faure’s “Requiem,” Mozart’s “Requiem,” and Handel’s “Messiah” among many others. It’s the best of both worlds—and just around the corner.—“Casting call” by Dan Law Guidelines for Registering a Golf Cart in Pine Knoll Shores The ordinance approving use of golf carts on Pine Knoll Shores streets was passed in August 2012. Below is a synopsis of the regulations and information on how to register a golf cart. For purposes of this ordinance, a golf cart is a vehicle designed for operation on a golf course for recreational purposes and is not capable of exceeding 20 miles per hour. ATVs, go carts, riding mowers, scooter chairs, etc. are disqualified.. To read the full ordinance, visit library.municode.com/index.aspx?clientId=14285 and click on “Chapter 51.” • Only persons over 16 years of age and holding a valid driver’s license may operate a golf cart in Pine Knoll Shores. • The owner must have liability insurance coverage in an amount at least that for motor vehicles operated on public highways. • Carts may be driven only on the far right of town roads from dawn to dusk and drivers must yield to vehicles and pedestrians. • Drivers of golf carts must follow all traffic regulations for motor vehicles; aU laws must be followed, including possession and use of alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs or any substance which impairs judgment. • All occupants must have a seat on the golf cart and keep body parts within the perimeter of the cart. • No cart may be operated on any street with a posted speed limit greater than 35 mph. However, carts may cross over Highway 58 to get to the beach access. • Carts must be equipped with two operating headlights, two tail lights with brake lights, rear view mirror, rear triangle reflector of the same type required by NC law, four operating turn signals and seat belts. • Carts are required to have an annual permit and sticker issued to the operators/owners of the carts by the Pine Knoll Shores Police Department. Permits/stickers must be displayed at all times. Annual fees for registration and inspection will apply, as will penalties for violations of this ordinance or any applicable traffic citations. To obtain a permit/sticker, cart owners must complete the approved registration form and a waiver of liability form and provide proof of ownership and current liability insurance prior to the cart’s being inspected. The annual fee for golf cart registration is $25. Stop by the public safety building or call 247-2474 for more information about obtaining a registration packet.
