PKS to Honor (Continued from page 1)
Vietnam Veterans
The committee chair on this effort is Craig Letchner, a Vietnam
veteran himself. We are asking all Pine Knoll Shores Vietnam-era
veterans to identify yourselves. To help facilitate this, we ask that
you call Craig at 622-4747 and leave a message so he can connect
with you. We want to honor you and thank you in an appropriate
fashion.
In addition, it is vital that we get an accurate headcount for the
dinner at the country club. Our Vietnam-era veterans will be our
guest for dinner; the cost for family members and those coming
out to show support and appreciation to our veterans will be $50.
Please be sure to call the number above by September 10 to let us
know how many will be attending the dinner.
Community participation is needed to make this long-overdue
recognition a success. Contributions should be made payable to
“PKS—RVN Event,” may be designated in memory or in honor of
a specific veteran and can be delivered or mailed to the Town of
Pine Knoll Shores, 100 Municipal Circle, Pine Knoll Shores, NC
28512.
Thank you in advance for your support.
Storm Debris Procedures
Following a hurricane or other storm event, the rules for
debris pickup are relaxed to enable homeowners to clean up as
quickly as possible. Below are reminders of how it works:
• A pickup is scheduled immediately after a storm, and
another is scheduled following the weekend after the
storm to allow second-home owners to get to the area
to clear their properties.
• “Packaging rules” are suspended for vegetative storm
debris. Long branches may be left for pickup, and there
is no requirement for tying the bundles.
• Structural debris (docks, boards, construction
elements) should be stacked in a pile separate from
vegetative debris.
• As is required for normal yard waste, storm debris
should be placed in the town right of way in front of
your own property. It had been suggested that it is
acceptable to stack debris in the center of a cul-de-sac.
After further considetation, it has been decided that
debris stacked in the road is not acceptable because it can
cause an access problem for emergency equipment and
some post-storm services.
• Debris should not be dropped off at Lot C adjacent to
the Public Safety Building. This drop-off site is provided
for the convenience of property owners and residents,
but we do not have the capacity there to handle the
volume a storm produces.
• Once the final storm
pickup for your
location is complete,
normal rules for
cutting/tying debris
resume.
