PKS Supports Trivia Bee

The seventh annual Boys and Girls Clubs of Coastal Carolina Trivia Bee was
held on Friday, January 22, at the Crystal Coast Civic Center. Twenty-seven teams
of three participants each competed for the prestigious traveling Trivia Bee trophy.
Teams included groups from Rotary clubs, churches, college alumni associations,
municipalities and those who just wanted to have fun and support the Boys and
Girls Clubs. The youth team once again added excitement to the evening with their
good showing.
Three teams from Pine Knoll Shores participated in this year’s Trivia Bee—one
representing the Town of Pine Knoll Shores, another from The Country Club of the
Crystal Coast (CCCC), and a third representing Pine Knoll Shores Realty.
Sponsored by Mayor Ken Jones, the town’s team held on through competition
to win third place. Members of the town’s team. Tree City Beelievers, included Ted
Goetzinger and Elbe and Scott Sherrill.
Members of the CCCC team. Plan Bee, included Mariana Goldstein, Mike
Ragsdale and Cathi Tanner. The team was again sponsored by Pine Knoll Shores
homeowners and residents Moni and Bill Bottlinger, Elaine and Tom Tempel and
Betty and Dick Watson. ■ j

Public Services Director Named
Sonny Cunningham, who has served as interim
Director of Public Services for the Town of Pine
KnoU Shores since May of last year, was named
Public Services Director in February. Sonny has
been an employee of the town since 2008, but he
has been working on the Pine Knoll Shores water
system since 1978. In 2009 he was named the best
small-water-system manager in the state by the NC
Rural Water Association.
Town Manager Brian Kramer said, “I have
worked closely with Sonny since he came aboard,
and will say unequivocally what every person in
Pine Knoll Shores who knows him is already aware
of: there simply is not another person who works
as hard or cares as much about the citizens of this town as Sonny. But that’s not why we
named him as the Director. He’s smart, he’s service oriented, and he’s a solid manager of
people, time and resources. He will do an outstanding job in his new position.”
Congratulations, Sonny, and thank you for all you do for the citizens of Pine Knoll Shores.

The Carteret County Museum of History, formerly The History Place
The Pine Knoll Shores History Committee, in conjunction with the Carteret
County Historical Society, presents “Beach Town in a Forest—The Story of Pine
Knoll Shores.” This exhibit will be on display from March 15,2016, through March
15, 2017, in the newly remodeled Rodney Kemp Gallery at the Carteret County
Museum of History, formerly known as The History Place.
The story starts with native people, the age of exploration and the first to
homestead on the land—Meginnises, Royalls and Abonita adventurers. Those
stopping in this area of the exhibit need to be careful not to scare the alligator,
typical of wildlife once common on the island.
Alice Green Hoffman came to Bogue Banks in 1915 and left a light
environmental footprint. Exhibit visitors may ignore her “No Trespassing” sign and
approach her in the outfit she frequently wore here, but dare not go too close since
she is armed with one of her pistols. Admiring a steamer trunk filled with clothes
she might have worn, they can imagine the high life she enjoyed in New York City
and Paris. Before moving on, some may think they hear Polly, her parrot, cuss in
