Close Out On Our Ninth Year
ByJean McDanal
Thank you, Pine Knoll Shores, for
your commitment and dedication
to making our ninth year one of
the best. The first event, held on
May 28, was the 5K Beach Run and
1-mile Fun Run/Walk. This began
at the Clam Digger Inn, then moved
across Salter Path Road through the
maritime forest of Beacons Reach.

PKS Promotes Two of Its Best
By Brian Kramer
The Board of Commissioners has approved the promotion of Scott Sherrill to
serve as the town planner and Sarah Williams to serve as the Pine Knoll Shores
town clerk. Both moves become effective on July 1 at the beginning of the new
fiscal year.

sworn in by Mayor Jones—p/iofos by Brian Kramer
Scott came to the staff in May 2012 frorti UNC—Chapel Hill, where he received
his Master of Public Administration. He has an undergraduate degree from
Davidson College. He was initially assigned as the town clerk with secondary duties
as the planning administrator. Pine Knoll Shores has long had a vacant planner
position, and the timing was right for Scott to formally assume a role he has been
filling for four years. He has been the town’s central figure in the creation of our
first Strategic Plan, was the staff lead in the rewrite of the Land Use Plan, and has
led numerous ordinance revision efforts. He has been the town’s lead agent for
transportation planning, serving on the Down East Rural Planning Organization
with representatives from towns in a three-county area. Scott has been a member of
two committees for the North Carolina League of Municipalities, and as such has
kept the town apprised of legislation in Raleigh that could affect Pine Knoll Shores.
He is one of the county’s most respected young administrators, and this year will
sit for exams to become a certified zoning officer and to become a member of the
American Institute of Certified Planners. (Continued on page 5)
