Announcing 2017-18 AMF Concert Season By Linda Seale The American Music Festival is proud to announce its chamber music season for 2017-18. This is our 28th season providing exceptional classical chamber music to the people of Carteret County. On September 9, a “cello orchestra” will be performing. World renowned cellist Amit Peled will bring a dynamic ensemble of international cellists to present a wide range of classical favorites from the Baroque to the contemporary. Included will be works by Boccherini, Handel, Ligeti, Schubert and Haydn. The Schumann Quartett will bring the music of Haydn, Barber and Schubert on November 4. These young artists from the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center create a powerful musical experience that is inspiring. Our 2018 concerts lead off on January 27 with the Duo Francais featuring Nicolas Duchamp, a flutist from Paris, accompanied by Barbara McKenzie, pianist. Their presentation of the music of Taffanel, Gaubert, Debussy, Poulenc and Copland will introduce listeners to the lush world of French elegance and beauty. Acronym is a large Baroque string group that will present Vivaldis Four Seasons and other Italian surprises on February 24. The final program of the season is April 7. The Calidore Quartet, another group from the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, will be returning to present a concert including the music of Tchaikovsky, Janacek, Beethoven and Shaw. Please note a change of venue. All of these concerts will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Morehead City with the exception of the January concert, which will be held at the History Museum of Carteret County in Morehead City. All concerts begin at 8 p.m. A season ticket for all five concerts maybe purchased for $120 by mailing a check to AMF, PO Box 1099, Beaufort NC 28516, or by calling 728- 6152 for more information.
